Artie Butler was born in Brooklyn, NY. As a teenager he was discovered by the legendary songwriting and producing team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where her father was a social worker at the Irene Kaufman Settlement in the Hill District.
