A populist candidate, promising to return the country to greatness, becomes president of the United States, and then all hell breaks loose in It Can't Happen Here, a new play based on Sinclair Lewis' eerily prescient 1935 novel, adapted for the stage by Tony Taccone and Bennett S. Cohen. Foothill Theatre Arts presents It Can't Happen Here, directed by Bruce McLeod, for three weeks only, now through November 19, 2017 at the Lohman Theatre, on the Foothill College Campus (at the bottom of the hill), 12345 El Monte Road, Los Altos Hills. Palo Alto Players opens its 84th season with the West Coast premiere of the colorful and stirring musical, Big Fish (based on the novel by Daniel Wallace and the Columbia Motion Picture written by John August). With music & lyrics by Andrew Lippa and book by John August, this tender tribute to family and the magic of storytelling is a feast for the eyes, as well as the heart. Big Fish will play for 11 performances (September 12-28, 2014) at the Lucie Stern Theater, located at 1305 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto.

THE GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR Opens at Bus Barn Stage Company, 4/13
When the locals in a small Russian hamlet learn that an undercover government inspector is coming for a surprise visit, an unfortunate case of mistaken identity sends the whole village spiraling into a tizzy of panic and greed. Opening April 12 and playing through May 5 on the Los Altos stage, this adaption by Jeffrey Hatcher of Nikolai Gogol's classic, THE GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR exposes the corruption of a Russian provincial town.
