Portland Opera will begin 2022 with performances of the 2013 opera When the Sun Comes Out, composed by Leslie Uyeda with a libretto by the poet Rachel Rose. CSC Begins MACBETH Previews, Announces Timothy Douglas As Director Of Upcoming FRANKENSTEIN


Classic Stage Company kicks off its 2019-20 season on Thursday, October 10, when previews begin for artistic director John Doyle's new staging of William Shakespeare's Macbeth, opening October 27 and running through December 15 at the Lynn F. Angelson Theater at CSC (136 E. 13th St, New York). Today CSC announces that Timothy Douglas will direct Tristan Bernays' retelling of Frankenstein (beginning January 30), which the company will pair with Kate Hamill's reimagining of Dracula (starting January 14), directed by Sarna Lapine, to form a thrilling repertory cycle of adaptations of two legendary Gothic nightmares by emerging playwrights.

BREATH OF LIFE to Open at The Armory this May


Portland favorites Gretchen Corbett and Sharonlee McLean take the stage beginning May 4 to star in David Hare's The Breath of Life, a two-woman play The Daily Telegraph called "bitingly funny." When Francis Beale (McLean) decides she wants one last word with her ex-husband's ex-lover (Corbett), both women are forced to confront their past, their failed relationships, dashed ideals and the lens through which they choose to view their futures. Ken Rus Schmoll (readings in six of the last ten JAW Festivals at The Armory, productions at Playwrights Horizons and New York Theatre Workshop) will direct.

'Dora: Tramontane' may be the first of a trilogy, but it has the power to stand on its own as well as part of a set. The work is breathtaking and emotional, and - like any good piece of art - stays with you long after the final bows. Co-curators: choreographer Stefanie Nelson of Stefanie Nelson Dancegroup and bestselling author David Shenk (The Forgetting) present the launch of a new festival devoted to memory and forgetting. The inaugural event will feature Stefanie Nelson's A, MY NAME IS…, a dance piece inspired by a family experience with dementia, using several short films from David Shenk's Living With Alzheimer's Film Project. It will take place on January 23, 2019, at Aaron Davis Hall at The City College of New York (129 Convent Avenue at West 135th Street), with performances at 11:00 am and 6:30 pm. Both shows will be followed by a discussion with invited panelists including Meredith Wong from CaringKind's Connect2Culture program, and a reception (evening show only).
