A new disc of music by Ellen Taaffe Zwilich including the debut recording of her Cello Concerto (2020), performed by soloist Zuill Bailey and the Santa Rosa Symphony led by its music director, Francesco Lecce-Chong, is a new release from Delos Records, available September 16, 2022.

The last time Sarasota Opera performed Nabucco, the work that solidified Verdi's reputation as an opera composer, was in 1995. The Music Critics Association of North America (MCANA) is pleased to announce that its second annual award for Best New Opera has been given to composer David Hertzberg for The Wake World, which received its premiere on September 18, 2017, commissioned by Opera Philadelphia in a co-presentation with The Barnes Foundation. The award was created to honor musical and theatrical excellence in a fully staged opera that received its world premiere in North America during the preceding calendar year. The inaugural award went to  Breaking the Waves, composed by Missy Mazzoli with libretto by Royce Vavrek.

Peabody award winner and Pulitzer Prize finalist Theresa Rebeck will visit Texas State University this weekend to spend some time with the cast and director of her play Seminar, currently in rehearsal at the university.

Oscar and three-time Tony Award-winner Tony Walton will receive the Mike and Dianne Bowman Lifetime Achievement award at Texas State University this fall and will hold the title of Artist-in-Residence for the 2013-2014 season, as part of the Bowman Guest Artist Series.
