Jacob's Pillow Announces New Board of Trustees

Jacob's Pillow Dance announces today the appointment of four new members to its Board of Trustees: MacArthur Genius Fellow and Jacob's Pillow Dance Award recipient Kyle Abraham; former New York City Ballet principal dancer Wendy Whelan; lawyer, teacher, and active member of the Massachusetts community Diane Patrick; and Berkshires-based gallerist Sienna Patti.

The Hasty Pudding Institute of 1770 honored acclaimed Producer David Heyman last night as the 2014 recipient of the Order of the Golden Sphinx . The annual Order of the Golden Sphinx gala was held at the Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City. Heyman's critically acclaimed box office hit Gravity, directed by Alfonso Cuaron and starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney received 10 Academy Award nominations and won an outstanding seven Oscars. Patrick Page, Diane D'Aquila Receive STC's Emery Battis Acting Awards

The Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC) congratulates this year's recipients of the Emery Battis Acting Award, Patrick Page and Diane D'Aquila. Since 2010, STC has recognized two actors per season who have demonstrated exceptional skill and technique on the stage. Page and D'Aquila were praised for their incredible performances as the title role in Coriolanus and dual appearances as Volumnia in Coriolanus and the Countess in Wallenstein, respectively. The award was presented December 3, 2013 at the opening night dinner for STC's current mainstage production, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, hosted by the Board of Trustees.

U.S. Governors and Spouses Serve as 'Reading Ambassadors' of the Scholastic Summer Challenge

NEW YORK, June 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ Regardless of their political affiliations, Governors and Governors' Spouses across the country agree that literacy is critical to success. To help children avoid the 'summer slide'the learning loss that can occur when school is out for the summer44 leaders have signed on as 'Reading Ambassadors' of the 7 th annual Scholastic Summer Challenge, a free program dedicated to keeping kids motivated to read every day all summer. Each of the Reading Ambassadors has pledged to reinforce the importance of summer reading in his or her state, and the majority have committed to hold summer reading events at a local school or library. In support of their participation, Scholastic (SCHL), the global children's publishing, education, and media company, will donate 500 books to the school of each Reading Ambassador's choice.

The Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest celebrates its fifth anniversary in Massachusetts with a record 14,000 students from 60 high schools participating. The Huntington Theatre Company facilitates the national contest that brings poetry into the English classroom in a dynamic way and grows students' speaking skills and self-confidence. The Massachusetts Cultural Council and the Huntington Theatre Company sponsor the MA contest; the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the Poetry Foundation sponsor the competition on the national level.
