'Pulling It All Into The Current'

"We see the same stars and tell different stories. A look through the eyes of ten characters as they navigate the minefields and playgrounds of life. From fifteen-year-old Rhonda to the Veteran Hutsey, these stand-alone stories of teenagers, veterans, elders, addicts, queers, teachers, and others mingle haphazardly alongside and within each of us as they are 'pulled into the current' landscape. What's the aerial view of the terrain?

What does the map look like when you turn it inside out?"

"People need to rush to the theater to see this, they do. In many ways, it was the confirmation that I think that we all need that we're all okay and we're all on this ledge, and we can make it, we can fly." - Susan L. Taylor,  Editor-in-Chief Emeritus of Essence Magazine.

Prepare to be transported on an emotional journey as you delve into the intersections of Blackness, sexuality, and consciousness.

"Pulling it All Into The Current" introduces a constellation of vibrant characters, from teenagers to veterans, elders to addicts, queers to teachers. Each character brings a unique perspective and shares profound insights into the human experience:

·      Brenda, an exceptional poet whose words convey a profound sense of struggle, resilience, and hope.

·      Rhonda, a fifteen-year-old on a journey of self-discovery, marked by painful experiences.

·      Ray-Ray, a young man torn between seeking reincarceration to survive his inner turmoil and sparing his loved ones from harm.

·      Chocolate Marsh, a recovering addict embarking on a transformative voyage of healing and redemption.

·      Laprecious, a teenage mother navigating the delicate balance between her dreams for her newborn daughter and shielding her from the harsh world.

·      Corner, a vibrant artist whose creations serve as a bold voice of resistance against the gentrification encroaching upon his beloved neighborhood.

·      Professor Crooked-Leg Boo, a brilliant street poet whose stirring 'soapbox sermons' shed light on the harsh realities of street life.

·      Preacher, a beacon of hope in a world plagued by adversity, uplifting and motivating those around him with unwavering faith and inspiring words straight from the middle passage.

"I hope these characters and their stories will resonate deeply with the audience, eliciting empathy, compassion, and a sense of shared humanity," Letta Neely shared. "Through their struggles, triumphs, and hopes, I aim to inspire conversations, provoke introspection, and foster a greater understanding of the diverse experiences that shape our world. Ultimately, I hope the play leaves a lasting impact on the hearts and minds of those who witness it."
