THE BAKER'S WIFE - Ridgefield Theater Barn

The Ridgefield Theater Barn will hold open auditions for The Baker’s Wife on Sunday, February 25th and Tuesday, February 27th at 7pm. The musical, book by Joseph Stein, music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, will be directed by Rena Gavigan, with musical direction by Sarah Fox. Performances will take place Friday and Saturday evenings from May 31st through June 22nd at 8pm, with Sunday matinees June 9th and 16th at 5pm.

Per Music Theater International, The Baker’s Wife tells the tale of “the bickering residents of a rural village in 1935 Provence, France, [who] have been without a baker for seven weeks. They finally find peace and contentment in the new baker, Aimable, and his radiant young wife, Genevieve. However, when Genevieve is lured away by a handsome young man, the middle-aged baker loses all zest for life and baking. When he refuses to bake, the villagers must work as a team to bring Aimable and Genevieve back together.”

Although The Baker’s Wife has existed as a fairly traditional period piece in the musical theater canon, Gavigan is excited to bring this production to life with a fresh perspective and vision. She encourages actors and performers of all backgrounds and identities to audition even if they haven’t seen themselves represented in previous productions of the show.

All roles are open and actors of all backgrounds and gender identities are urged to audition. More information, including a complete cast breakdown, audition requirements, and additional production details can be found at
