GODSPELL 2012 - Pioneer Productions Company

Pioneer Productions is casting “Godspell 2012”, a modern retelling of the original sensation “Godspell, injected with contemporary pop culture and dazzling new arrangements of Stephen Schwartz’s classic score.

Based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew, and told through parables and song, a small group of people help Jesus bring together a community by using a wide variety of games, improvisation, and a hefty dose of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs ranging in style from pop to vaudeville is employed as the story unfolds, telling a timeless tale that spans countless generations.

Pioneer Productions is committed to an open-minded casting process, and we believe that all roles can be reimagined (that’s the beauty of theatre!). We have purposefully left out any specific gender requirements for our production of Godspell…we are simply looking for ten amazingly talented humans to join our family and tell this story. ALL roles are open!! Godspell is a high-energy, fast-paced show, and all actors are featured throughout.

  • Jesus: (Human being, 16-40) Literally embodies pure light, compassion, and LOVE, charismatic, energetic, gentle but with strength, the sort of person others instinctively follow; tenor, high G. Sings “Save The People”
  • John The Baptist/Judas: (Human being, 16-80). Jesus’s closest apostle, must be strong and charismatic, serious yet possess a good sense of physical comedy; sings “Prepare Ye The Way Of The Lord”
  • Actor #3: (Human being, 16-80). Open and honest. Perhaps the youngest and the first of the group to commit to following Jesus. Sings Day by Day.”
  • Actor #4: (Human being, 16-80). Sweet and innocent with strong vocals, sings “All Good Gifts”
  • Actor #5: (Human being, 16-80) High energy, impish and playful, sings “We Beseech Thee”
  • Actor #6: (Human being, 16-80) Sexy, sultry, commands the stage with their presence, sings “Turn Back, Old Man”
  • Actor #7: (Human being, 16-80) Strong and reflective with powerhouse vocals, sings “O Bless The Lord”
  • Actor #8: (Human being, 16-80) Steadfast and true, sings “By My Side”
  • Actor #9: (Human being, 16-80)
  • Actor #10: (Human being, 16-80)


What to prepare: Please come prepared with 32 bars of a song in the style of the show that best shows off your storytelling and your personality! If you are not sure what to sing, send us an email (pioneerproductions@gmail.com), and we can provide selections from the show. Oh, and if you have a resume and headshot, please bring that, too! Callbacks will include movement and dance.

Time and Date: March 12 and March 13 @ 7:00 PM (callbacks, by invitation, March 16th at 3pm)

Location: Auditions will take place at the Morristown United Methodist Church located at 50 South Park Place in Morristown, NJ. Parking is available on-site. Should the church lot fill up, additional parking is available at the Dehart Street Parking Garage.
