The Theater Offensive seeks non-union actors/singers for an original musical, 99% Stone by Letta Neely and Melissa Li and directed by Maureen Shea. Actors will be cast for a staged reading taking place the last weekend in June 2013.
This new musical
99% Stone takes to the stage with the liberating energy of a workers' rebellion and the urgency of a pepper spray blast. The 1969 Stonewall Uprising was the original Queer Occupy Action. In 99% Stone, the story of how a few young Flame Queens got fed up, fought back, and sparked an international movement that burst to life and how a barroom full of today's 99% in a dive bar in Dorchester are on the verge of doing the same.
CHARACTERS:
? DELLA CALLE (63) Sings mezzo-soprano. Puerto Rican Femme Lesbian. Nursing Home Aide. Activist. Narrator. Also plays YOUNG DELLA CALLE (19). Looking for younger actor who can play older.
? RACHEL TENSION (18) Sings tenor. Black Male Queen. Has resided on the streets of Greenwich Village since 14. Turns tricks for a living. Also plays OLDER RACHEL TENSION (62). Looking for younger actor who can play older.
? SYBIL D'SOBEDIANCE (17) Sings tenor. Black Male Queen. Neophyte streetwalker in Greenwich Village. Also plays ELEMENTAL (25) Black American. Streetwise bartender and hustler.
? HENRY (24) Sings baritone. White Straight Man. Sincere. Hard-working, but unemployed. Also plays POLICE OFFICER.
? DONOVAN (24-30) Sings baritone/bass. Latino/Puerto Rican. Muscular wolf. Assumed heterosexual out gay male. Very assertive. Plumber by day. Also plays LA MISMA (25) Latino Gay Man. Closeted police officer.
For first auditions, please prepare the following:
? Up to 32 bars of an up-tempo/pop-rock song from a musical or off the radio.
? Sheet music with start and ending clearly marked (accompanist will be provided); no a cappella please
