9 TO 5 THE MUSICAL

Audition Dates:

November 1st and 2nd, 2021 at 7pm.

?Possible Callbacks on November 3rd, 2021 at 7pm. No appointments are necessary.

Rehearsals: Weeknights 6:30 - 9:30 pm starting shortly after auditions. There will be a break in rehearsals over the holidays.

Performance Dates: January 14th - 30th, 2022

Audition Requirements:

Please prepare 32 bars of a song in the style of the show that displays your vocal range. Please bring appropriate dancewear as some actors may be put through a basic dance audition. All those auditioning with experience in tap, please bring your tap shoes to auditions.

About the Show:

9 to 5 The Musical, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick, is based on the seminal 1980 hit movie. Set in the late 1970s. this hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era is outrageous, thought-provoking, and even a little romantic.

Pushed to the boiling point, three female coworkers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. In a hilarious turn of events, Violet, Judy and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy – giving their boss the boot! While Hart remains otherwise engaged, the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down. Hey, a girl can scheme, can't she?

Roles:

Violet Newstead (Age 35 - 50 / Vocal Range F3 - D5):

The company’s Head Secretary. She is a single mother who stands up for what she believes in. Strong, ambitious, and done with being overlooked. (All Ethnicities)

Doralee Rhodes (Age 20 - 30 / Vocal Range G3 - E5):

A young, sexy spitfire who works at Mr. Hart’s office. She is a lot more than just her looks! (All Ethnicities)

Judy Bernly (Age 20 - 35 / Vocal Range Ab3 - F5):

The new girl at the firm. She has been burned by her husband’s affair and is searching for personal empowerment. Insecure, determined, and hopeful. (All Ethnicities)

Franklin Hart (Age 45 - 55 / Vocal Range C3 - Gb4):

The firm top executive and a notorious chauvinist. He is capable of faking charm but usually shows his true colors as an arrogant, self-absorbed boss. (All Ethnicities)

Roz Keith (Age 35 - 55 / Vocal Range G3 - C5):

Mr. Hart’s attentive Administrative Assistant: the snitching queen of office gossip. She has an unrequited love for Mr. Hart and will do anything she can to win his approval. (All Ethnicities)

Joe (Age 25 - 35 / Vocal Range B2 - G4):

A handsome, young office accountant. Genuine, nice, and smitten with Violet. (All Ethnicities)

Dwayne (Age 25 - 35 / Vocal Range E2 - G4):

Doralee’s husband. He is very supportive of her professional pursuits. (All Ethnicities)

Josh (Age 15 - 18):

Violet’s awkward teenage son. (All Ethnicities)

Missy Hart (Age 20 - 40):

Franklin Hart’s wife, clueless to her husband’s true nature. (All Ethnicities)

Maria (Age 20 - 30):

A young and vibrant secretary in Hart’s office. (All Ethnicities)

Dick (Age 35 - 45):

Judy’s soon-to-be ex-husband. An average guy, he is sporting a little less hair and a little more paunch than he did ten years ago. (All Ethnicities)

Kathy (Age Flexible):

A secretary in Hart’s office with a tendency to gossip. (All Ethnicities)

Margaret (Age Flexible):

A secretary in Hart’s office with a tendency to drink. (All Ethnicities)

Tinsworthy (Age 50 - 65):

Franklin Hart’s boss and Chairman of the Board. A good man, who may be wiser to Hart’s ways than he lets on. (All Ethnicities)

Ensemble (Age Flexible):

Office employees, police officers, hospital employees (All Ethnicities)
