QueerWise, the stalwart Los Angeles spoken word company known for capturing the zeitgeist of their generation, partners with the award-winning Skylight Theatre Company in paying homage to World AIDS Day. The association of these two companies took root three decades ago when QueerWise founder, Michael Kearns, co-conceived and directed AIDS/US, a revolutionary piece of theater that dared to present real-life stories told by people with AIDS and produced by Gary Grossman (Producing Artistic Director of Skylight Theatre Company).
AIDS Threads: From Epidemic to Ecodisaster weaves personal stories from the AIDS years into a fabric of present-day politics and anecdotal observations from the lingering health crisis to addressing the immediate dangers of climate change and incessant wars worldwide. The event brings people together to commemorate World AIDS Day by raising awareness, remembering those affected by the virus, and recommitting to goals of collectively working for change to improve our planet. QueerWise's Head Writer Rabbi Robin Podolsky creates a mosaic that is as accessible as it is urgent. AIDS Threads: From Epidemic to Ecodisaster runs at 7:00pm Thursday, November 30, 2023 with discussion to follow. Skylight Theatre is located at 1816 1/2 N. Vermont Ave, LA, 90027. Tickets are $20 (recommended age 16 +). Information and reservations: (213) 761-7061.
