Everybody's heard of Buddy Holly, but not everyone knows the 1950s rock and roll star was one of the strongest inspirations for rock stars to come. Or that he was a pioneering figure in bridging racial barriers in the music world.

BUDDY - THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY is the multi- award winning, worldwide smash hit musical celebration of the life and tragic death of Buddy Holly who shot to stardom in 1957. This rockin' musical plays June 27-July 9.

Full casting details for the smash summer musical Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story have been announced prior to runs at both Bucks County Playhouse and the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. Details of the performers, who will appear in both presentations, were released by Bucks County Playhouse's Executive Producer Robyn Goodman, Producing Director Alex Fraser, and Producers Stephen Kocis and Josh Fiedler. Directed by Tony nominee Hunter Foster with choreography by Lorin Latarro, Buddy will first run at the Bucks County Playhouse from May 27 through June 17 and will then transfer to the Kimmel Center's Perelman Theater on June 24 for previews, with the official opening June 28. The show will run at the Kimmel Center through July 9.

It seems as though every popular musician has been the subject of a jukebox musical, and so it is not surprising that the story of Buddy Holly has been explored in Buddy. Touring the UK and seen at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry, this musical follows passionate, impulsive Buddy on his struggle to break free of country music and make his name as a rock and roll star, concluding with his early death in a plane crash - the day the music died. 

Tympanic is excited to announce the cast and crew for the World Premiere of SWEET ANALYTICS, a dark comedy by Hayes Borkowski (Vacation, Area IV Theatre), directed by Joshua Ellison*. SWEET ANALYTICS begins Tympanic's tenth season, and opens October 24, 2016 and runs through November 20, 2016 at Berry United Methodist Church, 4754 N Leavitt St. in Chicago.

Theatre By the Sea (TBTS) in Wakefield, RI (I would have thought Matunuck) opens its season with a rousing version of BUDDY-THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY, a jukebox musical in two acts with a book written by Alan Janes, and music and lyrics by a variety of songwriters, mostly of course, Buddy Holly. Based on the life and career of the early rock and roller, the musical hews more closely to Holly's actual life story than the 1978 film version, which starred Gary Busey, and follows Holly from his struggles to escape country music and establish himself as a rocker, to his untimely death in a plane crash in 1959.

Following a hugely successful eighth season, which included the Midwest Premiere of Jackie Sibblies Drury's Social Creatures and the acclaimed short play festival, Today We Escape-inspired by Radiohead's OK COMPUTER -Tympanic Theatre Company is proud to announce its ninth season in Chicago, as well as the appointment of a new Artistic Director and co-Literary Managers. Very few entertainers have been able to sustain a career for over fifty years, and, sound as great as the legendary Johnny Rivers. The Grammy Award winner brings that legendary sound to the State Theatre today, November 13.

Tonight on THE LAST MAN ON EARTH, the survivors found another alive animal: crickets. Along with the survivors and the cow, this is the first sign of other life. The whales were beached; we haven't seen anything else. Given the short lifespan of crickets, these are likely newborns—survivors after the plague. The crickets bring nutrients to the cul-de-sac, and they also bring hope for the future.

David-Troy Somerville, co-founder and original lead singer of the 1950's rock 'n' roll vocal group The Diamonds and known to music fans around the world as 'Diamond Dave' Somerville, passed away early Tuesday morning in Santa Barbara from cancer. He was 81.
