An uplifting, toe-tapping, amusing winter relief continues at Quality Hill Playhouse with SONGBOOK OF THE 40S, the second installment of their Broadway And All That Jazz 2018-2019 season. A nation engulfed with war took comfort in songs from Broadway musicals, to big bands, to just feel good songs. Poet Rod McKuen once said, "1939 was a terrible time for the world, but it was a glorious time for songs and fighter pilots."
Musical Theatre Heritage's annual Christmas Spectacular opened the weekend of December 7th for a run through December 23rd at the MTH Theater on the third floor of Crown Center in downtown Kansas City. An eight-person cast along with a four-piece orchestra combines traditional popular Holiday music with some less familiar selections chosen to display the unusual skillsets of this cast.

The entirely Kansas City based company features David Adams, Samantha Agron, Danielle Barger, Lexi Brie, Jerome Johnson, Sicily Mathenia, Jon Rizzo, and Bob Wearing. The four-piece band will feature Ferrell on piano, Jacob Roemer on bass, Tod Barnard on drums, and Nate Nall on Trumpet.

From Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill made its journey to the Kansas City theater scene with the opening Saturday night February 14 at the White Theatre located at the Jewish Community Center in Overland Park. The White Theatre celebrates two first on their stage with Paul Hough directing the debut of From Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill and the first time the musical appeared at the theater. Hough directed the play in Los Angeles in 1985, winning the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Production and Direction. Hough was Director of Production for the American Heartland Theatre from 1996 until it closed its doors in 2013.
The final Musical Monday of 2014 took to the stage of the Off Center Theatre on Monday November 24. Produced six times a year by Musical Theater Heritage Tim Scott hosts the cabaret style production. In response to sold out seasons since 2009, additional performances on Tuesday night are scheduled beginning in 2015.

The musical based on the play by the same name by Jean Poiret opened on Friday night November 7 and runs through November 23. One of the best musical comedies to reach a Kansas City stage this season opened on Saturday July 12 at the White Theatre. Steven Eubank directs Monty Python's Spamalot, with book and lyrics by Eric Idle, music by John Du Prez and Eric Idle, and music direction by Pam Williamson. Eubank appears to be a comedic genius in his direction of campy stage plays. Working with an extremely talented cast, he puts together a hilarious production reminiscent of one of the funniest movies of all times, Airplane!.
Company, the musical comedy about a single man turning 35, opened to a sold-out house Saturday February 8 at the White Theatre in Overland Park, Kan. With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and from a book by George Furth, Director Barb Nichols assembled a talented cast of singers and dancers for the production. Music Director Martha Risser conducted a flawless performance by the accompanying orchestra.
