Review: THE WIZARD OF OZ at Harlequin Musical Theatre

A great show for the school holidays- with great values, humour, colour and with the added bonus of a real Toto  dog on stage- what more could you want?
Review: SHREK THE MUSICAL at Harlequin Theatre

Director Robin Lane and his team clearly took great care in casting the roles. Tony Smith as Shrek and Bridie Allen as Fiona, the lead roles,  both sang powerfully and took the audience on their flight of fancy. They had good chemistry as the unconventional and heartwarming love birds (or ogres). The supporting players Reuben Su’a as Donkey and Jack Hanrahan as Lord Farquaad were hilarious. Reuben and Jack provided comic relief in the best possible way. Lord Farquaad particularly leaned into the humour of his innovative presentation and Donkey’s wisecracks gave a contrast to the main love story which pulled heartstrings.

BWW Review: ANNIE at Harlequin Musical Theatre

If 2020 could be summed up perfectly in a show, that show would be ANNIE!
BWW Review: SPAMALOT at Playhouse Theatre, Glen Eden, Auckland

Playhouse Theatre Incorporated has assembled a cast of stellar performers for their production of 'Spamalot' which opened on Saturday night. The laughter and vibe of fun amongst the audience was a testament to the high energy and talent on the stage. All performers more-than-ably delivered the offbeat humour with the right ingredients of 'silly seriousness', sung extremely well, and dance like pros.
BWW Review: BUGSY MALONE at Playhouse Theatre Glen Eden

Superbly directed by first time directed Robin Lane and supported by a young musical director Sammie Campbell, the forty-four cast members (aged from 6-16) have the audience laughing almost from the opening moments.  Lane is delighted to have had the opportunity to direct this show, one which he has fond memories of, as it was his first show, aged five, playing Angelo, in Fat Sam's Gang. Lane says this is why he sees the show as more like a game than a show - and indeed, that concept comes spinning clearly through the action.
Inside Dirt On Alex Chilton's SONGS FROM ROBIN HOOD LANE

February 8 will see the release via the venerable Bar/None label of Songs From Robin Hood Lane and From Memphis to New Orleans, two thought-provoking looks at an often overlooked period of Alex Chilton's long, curious career.  He was at the height of his cult star fame in the mid 1980s to mid 1990s when he made these recordings. It is some of his best most honest work oddly neglected for some time but delivered here for enthusiasts and neophytes alike. All these recordings have been out of print for decades.
