Merola Announces Conductor, Director For First-Ever Commissioned Work


In 2019, San Francisco's acclaimed Merola Opera Program will present the first opera commissioned in the Program's history, the world premiere of If I Were You, by distinguished American composer Jake Heggie and noted librettist Gene Scheer. This ground-breaking work will be presented August 1 - 6, 2019, at San Francisco's Herbst Theatre. Today it was announced the opera will be conducted by Nicole Paiement and directed by Keturah Stickann. Information is available at www.merola.org. Tickets will go on sale in Spring 2019.

Houston, August 17, 2015—Houston Grand Opera's (HGO) 2015–16 season showcases the vibrant and diverse artistic mix that marks HGO as a leading 21st-century American opera company: Wagner's Siegfried, the third installment of La Fura dels Baus's imaginative Ring cycle featuring a new generation of Wagnerians; the world premiere of Prince of Players by eminent American composer Carlisle Floyd, the Lynn Wyatt Great Artist for 2015–16; Dvoák's fairy tale rarity Rusalka; a holiday revival of family favorite The Little Prince from the award-winning composer Rachel Portman and librettist Nicholas Wright; a new production of The Marriage of Figaro; a new-to-Houston Eugene Onegin; a beloved core production, Tosca; and the Houston debut of Broadway sensation Rob Ashford's take on the classic musical Carousel. Through its community collaboration program HGOco, the company will present two additional world premieres: O Columbia, a chamber opera by composer Gregory Spears and librettist Royce Vavrek that examines the past, present, and future of the American spirit of exploration; and The Root of the Wind is Water, a chamber opera by composer David Hanlon and librettist Stephanie Fleischmann about the impact of hurricanes on the Texas Gulf coast.

Single Tickets for Chicago Opera Theater's THE MAGIC FLUTE Go On Sale 8/10


This September, for the first time in eleven years, Chicago Opera Theater (COT) will present an opera in the fall: a new production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's The Magic Flute. This is the first new production of The Magic Flute in Chicago in 17 years, the last being Chicago Opera Theater's production in 1995 at the Athenaeum Theatre. The opera will feature the Chicago premiere of the English translation by Jeremy Sams. The Magic Flute performs at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance in Millennium Park on September 15, 19, 21, and 23.

COT Announces 2012 Cast and Artistic Teams


Chicago Opera Theater (COT) announces the final artistic teams for their upcoming 2012 Season. The season opens April 14 with Shostakovich's Moscow, Cheryomushki, followed by the concluding opera in COT's "Medea" trilogy, Handel's Teseo; and in September COT will present a new production of Mozart's The Magic Flute. Chicago Opera Theater's 2012 Season will be presented at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance in Millennium Park.
