Plays by Rogelio Martinez, Ty Defoe, Jessica Bashline and Craig Thornton highlight Syracuse Stage’s 2022/2023 Cold Read Festival of New Plays, Oct. 18 – 23.

The Syracuse University Department of Drama announced a return to in person, live performance for the 2021/2022 season beginning with the contemporary romantic comedy “In Love and Warcraft,” Nov. 12 – 20 in the Arthur Storch Theatre.

New York Theatre Barn will host a free live stream of its award-winning New Works Series on Wednesday, May 26th, 2021 at 7PM EST, featuring excerpts from the new musicals The Loophole and The Bridge. The live 1-hour presentation will also feature a conversation with the writers.

After a sold-out Wallis debut in July, A Little New Music will spotlight another lineup of emerging musical theatre talents for The Sorting Room's 2018 Winter Session at The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, December 20 at 7:00 p.m. A Little New Music's audiences will enjoy original musical theatre songs firsthand before they hit Broadway or the regional circuit.

Prospect Theater Company, under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director Cara Reichel and Managing Director Melissa Huber, will present MONUMENT, a collection of new mini-musicals in concert, the culmination of Prospect's 2018 Musical Theater Lab. MONUMENT, the company's 12th lab performance, will be presented on February 3, 2018 at 8pm at The TimesCenter (242 West 41st, NYC).

Broadway's Future Songbook Series - presented by Arts and Artists of Tomorrow begins its twenty-seventh season tonight, Monday, October 30th, in the Bruno Walter Auditorium at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center located at 111 Amsterdam Avenue and 65th Street. The New York Musical Festival (NYMF) has announced the performer lineup for the Women of Note concert series, celebrating female, queer and trans artists who are changing the landscape of musical theatre. Featuring dynamic sounds and incredible performers, this one-night-only concert event will showcase even more artists than last year in two back-to-back performances.  Women of Note will take place at The Duke on 42nd Street (229 W. 42nd Street) on Monday, August 1 with two separate lineups at 6:30 pm and 9:30 pm. 'When You've Got a Gift: 3 One-Act Musicals' will premiere at the Kraine Theater July 10 and 11.

Question: Would you buy an orchestra ticket (or any ticket for that matter) to an experimental Broadway musical called The Sweaty Smorgasbord where the 11 o'clock number is "Supper Sings Tonight?" How about checking out a derivative Jason Robert Brown musical titled The Gassy Breakthrough, where the song "Too Soon" is about whether the protagonist should fart on the first date? Here's one that potential musical theater show investors would love: A new Disney style musical called The Sticky Snake. Of course these aren't real or even prospective Broadway musicals. They are ideas that have emerged from the creative minds of some young composers and lyricists who might very well have their musicals gracing Broadway theaters some day. But in the meantime they have been conjuring up these wild concepts in Tune In Time, a musical theater game show staged semi-regularly at The York Theatre Company on East 54th Street (the next installment will be on Monday, November 9 at 7:30 pm) that could have been created by some hybrid of Chuck Barris (of The Gong Show fame) and Mel Brooks. As the show's creators and producers Amy Engelhardt and Heather Shields are fond of promoting about Tune In Time, "Anything goes . . . and usually does."

The November installment will feature lyricists Meghan Kelleher (songwriter), Sukari Jones (Location, Location, Location!!!), and Kathleen Wrinn (Ten: The Story of Grace and Joe) and composers Bobby Cronin (unlucky in Love, 2014 NEO writer at the York), Andy Roninson (creator of the podcast Take a Ten Musicals), and Adam Spiegel (Cloned! and a returning TUNE IN TIME champion).
