When 26-year old Filipina transgender woman Jennifer Laude, is found dead with her head plunged into a motel room toilet, the perpetrator is quickly identified as 19 year-old U.S. marine Joseph Scott Pemberton. A military recruit in an unfamiliar land, Pemberton was on “liberty leave” when he solicited Jennifer at a disco. On discovering that Jennifer was transgender, he brutally murdered her, leaving her to be found by her friend and the motel receptionist.

Musicals Tonight!'s 20th Anniversary Spring Season opener of Rodgers and Hart's The Boys From Syracuse, begins performances Tuesday, February 13th at The Lion Theatre on Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street). The comedy farce about mistaken identity, as adapted by George Abbott, will play a limited engagement through February 25th. The Boys From Syracuse is directed and choreographed by Jonathan Cerullo who has given the musical a fresh new take with men cast in almost all of the female roles for the very first time. Local Playwright Willard Manus' Joe & Marilyn: A Love Story, a new play about the troubled relationship between baseball great Joe DiMaggio and Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe, debuts this Saturday, April 23rd at 8:00 pm, runs April 23 - May 22, produced by John Lant and Anne Mesa, directed by T.J. Castronovo and starring Rico Simonini and Emily Alicia Low, produced by Write Act Rep@TheBrickhouse Theatre in North Hollywood. The play was developed at the Actors Studio Playwrights/Directors Unit (West Coast), where Manus and Castronovo are fellow-members. He shared with us a bit about the play and quite a bit about his life.
A team of Broadway veterans have united to create a new commercial for ALT - A Little Taste, a petite coffee bar in the ALT for Living showroom. The piece, conceived, produced, and directed by Paul McGill (BuULLETS OVER BROADWAY, SPIDER-MAN, A CHORUS LINE), stars Olga Karmansky (PIPPIN), with wardrobe by Michael Hannah and hair and make-up by Joseph Scott Hubrich. Hannah Grannemann has been named Children's Theatre of Charlotte's Executive Director. She will begin her role in July. She is currently the Managing Director of PlayMakers Repertory Company in Chapel Hill.
Children's Theatre of Charlotte will launch a search process for a new Executive Director in January. Bruce LaRowe informed the CTC's Board of Directors in October that he planned to step down at the end of December.
