Jennie Hughes BIO

Jennie Hughes is a native of Wichita, Kansas who is now an NYC based actress. She grew up in a small town called Augusta where she first learned of her love for the theater. Since being cast in a children's theatre musical in 7th grade, Jennie has been performing as frequently as she can manage. Throughout high school and college Jennie performed in many musicals and plays, also she was fortunate enough to assist her educators in choreography and direction. Highlights from high school and college include: Performing in Anything Goes- Reno Sweeney, Dames at Sea- Mona Kent, and Into the Woods- Baker's Wife; Choreographing You're A Good Man Charlie Brown; and Directing an original play titled: Core of Temptation.

Before moving to New York City Jennie Hughes acquired a Bachelor's in Fine Arts with a focus on Musical Theatre and Dance from Wichita State University. She also made a career doing free-lance choreography for local high schools, community and professional theaters as well as teaching recreational and competitive dance. A few of her memorable performances in Wichita, KS are: Woman 1- Party of One at Roxy's Downtown, The Golden Goose- Jack and the Beanstalk at Wichita Children's Theatre, and her final performance in From Bricks to Broadway- a cabaret that Jennie created.

Since moving to NYC, Jennie has participated in a reading of a new musical directed by Jeff Whiting called Hope for the Flowers: book by Eric Holmes, music and lyrics by Nat Zegree, and music direction by Jesse Kissel. She also had the pleasure of debuting her re-working of the classic Christmas tune- Santa Baby at the Cranky Cabaret last December. Most recently you may have seen Jennie performing at The West End Lounge's Valentine's Day Cabaret produced by Injoy Fountain. Jennie is currently rehearsing for a new musical to premier here in NYC called Freefall Frostbite. In her free time she is auditioning and working on creating a reader's theatre for new plays.
