It takes a special group of actors and a stellar production crew to turn a show infamously known as one of Stephen Sondheim's biggest “flops” into a hit. Luckily for Seattle audiences, Reboot Theatre has opened a fresh, spunky, and wildly entertaining production of Anyone Can Whistle. Hilariously directed by Jasmine Joshua, the chaos-filled show is now playing at Theatre Off Jackson.

FUN HOME is Heading to Bainbridge Performing Arts

Fun Home traces the coming-of-age of lesbian author Alison Bechdel, from her youth, to her years at Oberlin College, and finally to the present, where Alison, now grown, is struggling to write her own graphic autobiography. Facing the unexpected death of her father, Alison struggles to make sense of the past, particularly her relationship with her father, a man whose temperament and secrets defined her family and her life. A refreshingly honest musical about seeing your parents through grown-up eyes, Fun Home explores the haunting pull of memory and the power it wields in shaping our identities.

BWW Review: JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT at SMT Filled with Talent ... When it Gets Through

Seattle Musical Theatre has taken on Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" for the holidays, that bright and frothy, crowd-pleaser of a tuner. And while for this production they've managed to gather up some stellar talent, that talent sometimes has a hard time getting through the noise, or in most cases, the lack of noise.

BWW Review: Reboot's FLY BY NIGHT Charms but Mires Itself in Repetition

With their second production, Reboot Theatre Company hopes to charm its audience with this sweet little tuner "rebooted" by the company with its gender bent casting. Unfortunately, as talented and likable as the cast is, the show fails on two very important levels. It's certainly not little at 2 hours and 40 minutes and the casting does nothing to add to the story or the tone except to dilute the story in some places.

Meet the Cast of the Seattle Premiere of FLY BY NIGHT

Following last year's award-winning inaugural production (Seattle's first all-female 1776), Reboot rides again with the Seattle premiere of the indie rock fable FLY BY NIGHT, hot off its acclaimed Off-Broadway run at Playwrights Horizons. Conceived by Kim Rosenstock (99 Ways to f**k a Swan, Tigers Be Still) and written by musician and Broadway actor Will Connolly (Once), award-winning playwright Michael Mitnick, and Rosenstock, FLY BY NIGHT explores the journey of love from all its delectable angles.

SSR Kicks Off Season 18 With SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD

Though still quite young, composer Jason Robert Brown is behind a string of big musicals, including Parade, The Last Five Years and 13. This is your chance to see his first major work, Songs for a New World, which mixes pop, gospel, jazz and classical styles to capture the lives of its characters over the years -- from Columbus' first voyage in 1492 to the present day. Through exquisitely-crafted songs, the musical revue reflects the many changing visions of the American dream.

BWW Review: SMT's REEFER MADNESS Offers Few Highs

In these turbulent and overly permissive times, we need shows like 'Reefer Madness' to show us the way. The show itself is a wonderful and very funny spoof that when done right can have you laughing more than if you were high on 'the reefer' yourself. Unfortunately the production currently performing at Seattle Musical Theatre is so unfocused and under produced that it couldn't save anyone. In fact I question whether or not they were all high while they were making it.

BWW Review: SMT's High Energy JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR Lacks Depth

Let me start out by saying I do not like "Jesus Christ Superstar". I think it is a completely overrated show. Repeating the same lyric 50 times does not make a song! So it's more than an annoyance that every few years someone feels the need to resurrect it (pun intended). I mean in the past eight years I've seen it four times. In fact the current production at Seattle Musical Theatre is the third production in four years where they've chosen to set it in a post-apocalyptic world. I can only attribute its constant remounting to religious fervor and a mass familiarity with the source story. So I'm going to try and keep my disdain for the piece in check and focus on the performances. Unfortunately, as good as the performers were vocally, there was a severe lack of depth in these iconic characters plus a bad sound system which didn't aid the performers in getting me through the afternoon.

Cast Announced for Seattle Music Theatre's JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR

Seattle Musical Theatre's 2015/2016 season roars to life with the high-voltage rock opera JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice. Seattle superstar Billie Wildrick makes her SMT directorial debut as director and will be joined by SMT Associate Music Consultant Brandon Peck as music director and BroadwayWorld Award-winning Troy Wageman as choreographer.
