SCROOGE AND MARLEY: The Musical Comes to the Hoover-Leppen Theatre Next Month
From the creative team behind the 2012 indie film Scrooge & Marley, a modern day, queer variation on Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” comes a fully realized musical version reimagined for the stage. Scrooge & Marley: The Musical follows the familiar outline of the beloved tale of Ebenezer “Ben” Scrooge – the man who hates the holidays and who is reformed after memorable visits by three ghostly spirits.

Cast Announced for Midwest Premiere of REFUGE at Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre
Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre will open its 25th Anniversary season with the Midwest premiere of Refuge, a new play with music and puppetry from creators Satya Jnani Chávez and Andrew Rosendorf with translations by Mari Meza-Burgos. Refuge will begin previews October 7 with performances Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 6:00 p.m.

To honor the occasion, Chicago's favorite soon-to-be-married couple, Tony Nunzio and Tina Vitale, are welcoming back members of the original 1992 Chicago cast to the performance on Friday, June 16 at 8 p.m. Tony n' Tina's Wedding played an incredible 16 years during its original run in Chicago, and during that time entertained more than one million audience members of all ages. The new, retro/flashback version of the show opened in September of 2016 and is now in an open-ended run.

Back in 1993, CANNIBAL! THE MUSICAL was a peculiar foray into low budget film by director Trey Parker that didn't really find its audience. But, after the phenomenal success of South Park people starting renting it on DVD, soon discovering the kind of quirky humor and tuneful songwriting that had become such an integral part of the animated show's success. With everyone in need of a good laugh during the holiday season, Magic Smoking Monkey Theatre has put together a revival of their 2011 production, and it's every bit as funny and welcome as their original staging, in fact, it's on an even grander scale. This is a show I highly recommend, at least if you have the kind of offbeat sense of humor that I do.
