The Alley Theatre has announced the cast of Alley’s holiday tradition, Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. This brand-new adaptation by Artistic Director Rob Melrose is now coming to life on stage under his direction. Performances of A Christmas Carol begin Friday, November 18 and run through Friday, December 30 in the Hubbard Theatre.

CARES Act Assists Alley Theatre With Rehiring Temporarily Laid Off Employees


Last month, the Alley Theatre had to cancel the remainder of its 2019-20 season due to the ongoing COVID-19 health crisis. The effects of the virus on the Alley's financial stability forced the Alley to temporarily layoff 75% of the staff to mitigate additional losses. All temporarily laid off staff members were offered fully paid 100% of their health benefits and full deductible through June 30, 2020. h

Deborah Lackey Named Director Of Development At Alley Theatre


The Alley Theatre and Managing Director Dean Gladden announced today the appointment of Deborah Lackey as the new Director of Development. Lackey most recently served as the Chief Advancement Officer for the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston and has more than 25 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising management with cultural, healthcare, education, and social service organizations. She assumes one of two leadership positions at the Alley along with the recent appointment of Artistic Director Rob Melrose.

Cleveland Play House's SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE to Benefit Texas Theatre Devastated by Hurricane Harvey


Cleveland Play House (CPH) and Cleveland State University (CSU) will host an Arts Industry Night 6:30PM performance September 10th of Shakespeare in Love, with a portion of the proceeds to the Alley Theatre in Houston, Texas. Funds will be allocated to the Alley Employee Flood Assistance Fund to directly help the employees of the theatre affected by the devastation of Hurricane Harvey.

Arts-Based Community Development Investment Planned for Houston


National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Chairman Jane Chu announced 89 awards totaling $6.89 million supporting projects across the nation through the NEA's Our Town program. The Alley Theatre is one of the recommended organizations for a grant of $125,000 to support the launch of a city-wide Latino Theatre Initiative, El Zocalo. The NEA received 274 eligible applications for Our Town this year and will make grants ranging from $25,000 to $100,000.

Cleveland Play House Announces Hall of Fame Inductees


Cleveland Play House (CPH) will honor a new class of individuals who have contributed to its vibrant history with a Hall of Fame induction ceremony and luncheon on Sunday, October 9th from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Cibreo Privato located at 1501 E. 14th Street.  The 2016 inductees will include Jonathan Bolt, a former resident company actor at CPH who also directed the world premiere of Arthur Miller's The Archbishop's Ceiling; Dean R. Gladden, former CPH Managing Director who was instrumental in CPH's International Theatre Exchanges; Leonore Klewer, former CPH Manager for over a decade; and William Rhys, former CPH company member and Acting Artistic Director.
