The Suzi Bass Awards revealed nominations for the 2017-2018 Atlanta professional theatre season on Monday evening, August 27, to patrons and industry artists. The Suzi Nomination Party was generously hosted by Synchronicity Theatre, at 7:30pm, One Peachtree Pointe, 1545 Peachtree St. NE #102, Atlanta.  

Actor's Express will produce the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning Angels in America Part One: Millennium Approaches and Part Two: Perestroika. Co-directed by Freddie Ashley and Martin Damien Wilkins, Angels in America will run in rep, allowing audiences some opportunities to see both plays in one day. Performances are January 12 through February 17.

Actor's Express closes its 2015-2016 season with the romantic comedy SIGNIFICANT OTHER by Joshua Harmon, running May 21 - June 19. The Express run of SIGNIFICANT OTHER is currently the only sanctioned production in the country aside from the play's acclaimed world premiere at Roundabout Theatre Company in New York City last summer. Presenters included local favorite performers Denise Arribas, Tiffany Porter, Gina Rickicki, Clifton Guterman, Kevin Harry, Jeremiah Parker Hobbs, Chris Kayser, and Topher Payne.

Kicking off Horizon's 30th Anniversary season, blue collar collides with blue blood in the haves and have-nots comedy Elemeno Pea (pronounced L-M-N-O-P) by Molly Smith Metzler. A siblings' weekend on Martha's Vineyard goes awry when the younger sister's boss crashes the party. This three-ring circus send-up of the rich and their wannabe "help" finds both flying without a net.

STAGE DOOR PLAYERS, Dunwoody's own professional theatre company, continues its 40th Anniversary Season with The Game's Afoot or Holmes for the Holidays by Ken Ludwig, directed by Robert Egizio. The regional premiere opens on Friday, December 6, 8pm curtain, and runs until December 22. The show features some of Atlanta's top talent: Cara Mantella, Jackie Prucha, Jacob York, among others. According to The Wrap, Broadway vet Cheyenne Jackson has joined the cast of a pilot for Lifetime titled 'HR.' The actor joins previously announced cast members Greg Germann, Will Kemp, Kellee Stewar, Maulik Pancholy, Peter Fonda and Cara Mantella.

Aurora Theatre continues the Brand Signature Series with the Star Wars-themed comedy, All Childish Thingsrunning October 3-27, 2013. In his mom's basement in Cincinnati, Dave and his friends are plotting a caper that will deliver them from the Darth Vader-like clutches of life's dark side. As die-hard Star Wars enthusiasts, Dave's plan involves stealing a stash of coveted collectibles. Against Jabba-sized odds, their plan is so crazy, it just might work. This new comedy is more fun than a barrel of Wookies. The play is written by Joseph Zettelmaier, a Michigan-based playwright and four-time nominee for the Steinberg/American Theatre Critics Association Award for best new play including All Childish Things.

Like on her Broadway-themed television show 'Smash,' in 'Seminar,' running through June 16th at Actor's Express, Theresa Rebeck pulls away the curtain to revel the struggles required to create something for the enjoyment of others. Being able to see those struggles, both personal and creative, is a bit like seeing a sausage being stuffed; it can be ugly, but, if done well, the results are nonetheless appetizing. While Rebeck's script is mostly edge-of-your-seat exciting, it is riddled with lukewarm cliches. Thankfully, the superb cast compensates with deliciously rich performances. Directed by Suzi Award winner Freddie Ashley, 'Seminar' almost completely avoids the self-important tedium of a writer writing about writers who complain about how difficult writing is.

Actor's Express announces the final play of the 25th Anniversary Season SEMINAR, by Theresa Rebeck. The production opens on Saturday night, May 18, 2013, 8pm curtain, preview performances are May 16 and 17, and the pay-what-you-want sneak peek, "Director's Rough Cut", is Wednesday, May 15.
