Yelena Andreevna -- The Professor’s beautiful wife. Sacrificed her career to marry her much older husband.
Mikhail Lvovich Astrov -- The overworked country doctor.
Sonya Alexandrovna -- The Professor’s daughter by his first marriage. Runs this estate, is considered plain.
