BREAKDOWN
SEEKING ALL ETHNICITIES FOR ALL ROLES!!!
Shrek – 20s-40s. Ogre who has spent most of his life as an outcast, living in a swamp far from civilization; crass and brutish exterior disguises a soulful and lonely heart. A reluctant hero. Powerful, star presence with great humor. Scottish dialect.
Fiona – 20s-30s. Princess with an attitude. Quirky, hilarious and heartfelt mezzo-soprano with strong belt. Tap/dance skills required.
Donkey – Age 10-18, or 20s-30s. Interested in auditioning youth talent for this role, as well as adult talent. African-American. Shrek’s self-appointed sidekick, charming and clingy, a bright-eyed motor-mouth whose eagerness and quick wit barely disguise his desperate need for a friend. Comic skills, soulful vocal style.
Lord Farquaad – 30s-40s. Pompous, power-hungry little villain with a raging Napoleon complex. Character baritone or tenor. Movement skills a plus. Must have strong knees.
Dragon – Age/ethnicity open. Charged with guarding Princess Fiona in her isolated castle, Dragon traps Donkey and falls in love with him. Fierce mezzo/belter with gospel sound.
Pinocchio – 18-35. Neurotic wooden boy banished to Shrek’s swamp by Lord Farquaad. Comic role, tenor with strong, agile falsetto.
The following roles will double as Happy People of Duloc, guards, knights, three blind mice, rats, etc. Seeking all shapes, sizes and types who are strong singers, character actors, and adept at movement. Tap skills a plus.
Gingy (Gingerbread Man) – A cookie that is tortured by Farquaad's guards. Comedic role, character voice a plus, vocal versatility and solid belt/mix.
Mama Bear- Pop/rock belt.

Donkey- Interested in auditioning youth talent for this role, as well as adult talent. African-American. Shrek’s self-appointed sidekick, charming and clingy, a bright-eyed motor-mouth whose eagerness and quick wit barely disguise his desperate need for a friend. Comic skills, soulful vocal style.
Young Fiona- Age 8-12. Bright little girl only recently locked in a tower, who passes her time reading fairy tales about being rescued by a handsome and charming prince. Strong singer with sense of humor.
Teen Fiona – Age 13-17. Has been trapped in the tower for a few years and has some angst about not being rescued yet. Strong singer with sense of humor.
Baby Bear/Young Shrek- Male, Age 8-12. Strong singer with sense of humor, movement skills a plus.
