Preparation
Bring sheet music in proper key, accompanist provided. Music in the style of the show strongly encouraged. No recorded music, or a capella please. Non-union please limit song to 1 minute.

The role of Fred/Petruchio will be played by Davis Gaines – all other roles are available.

· A monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.

Breakdown

All roles double into the onstage production of Taming Of The Shrew – therefore all actors must be comfortable with Shakespearean dialogue.

All roles are open to all ethnicities.

NOTE: Actors auditioning for the following roles should attend only a dance call: Paul, Male and Female Dance Ensemble. All other roles should audition at a singing appointment.

There is pay for all roles for ages 18 and up.

PRINCIPALS

Fred Graham/Petruchio: Cast: Davis Gaines

Lilli/Kate: (to play late 20s-40s) A brilliant star of the stage and screen, she is the ex-wife of Fred Graham. Elegantly beautiful, passionate, hot-tempered, intelligent, and born to be a performer, she is every inch the star, but underneath the wit and glamour is a vulnerable woman looking for true love and companionship. Must sing well (legit mezzo soprano with strong low range).

Paul (Fred Graham's Dresser): (to play 20s-30s) A solid, stand-up guy, he is Fred's most trusted friend. Baritone, whistling skills a plus. Must sing, and must be excellent dancer. Acrobatic skills a plus.

Lois Lane/Bianca: (to play 20s-30s) A nightclub singer in her first featured stage role, she is beautiful to look at, but not much in the brains department. Sexy, flirty, flighty and a bit of a ditz, but with a heart of gold. Must sing (mezzo with a high belt or very strong mix). Must move well.

Bill Calhoun/Lucentio: (to play 20s-30s) A Broadway hoofer and a chronic gambler, he is the quintessential ladies' man. Attractive, confident and sexy, he can charm the pants off of anyone. Must sing well (Baritone, must have good harmony skills). Must be excellent dancer. Acrobatic and tumbling skills a plus.

Hattie (Lilli Vanessi's Dresser): (to play 30s-50s) Lilli's trusted confidante, she is the anchor to Lilli's emotional swirl. Must sing well (Alto or Mezzo with a high belt or very strong mix) and move.

General Harrison Howell: (to play 40s-50s) Career military officer, newly minted politician and Lilli's new man. He is a hard-bitten, conservative chauvinist who likes rules, order and precision. Must sing (baritone).

First Man/Aide to Kate: (to play 30s-50s) A Damon Runyan-style gangster/hit man who loves his job. Must sing (character baritone) and move.

Second Man/Aide to Kate: (to play 30s-50s) Second banana to First Man, he too is a Damon Runyan-style gangster/hit man who loves his job. Must sing (character baritone) and move.

ENSEMBLE

Ralph (Stage Manager): (to play 30s-50s) Doubles as ensemble. Must sing and move.

Pops (Stage Doorman)/Padua Priest: (to play 40s-60s). Warm-hearted, loves his job and has been doing it for decades. Doubles as ensemble. Must sing and move.

Dance Captain/Gregory: (to play 20s-30s) performs as a dancer in the Ensemble, and as Petruchio's recorder-playing servant in Taming of the Shrew. Must sing, and strong dancer. Acrobatic and tumbling skills a plus.

Harry Trevor/Baptisa Minola: (to play 40s-60s) A veteran character actor, he is Kate's long-suffering father in Taming of the Shrew. Singing a plus.

Stagehand #1 (Electrician)/Cab Driver/Nathaniel: (to play 20s-30s) performs as a singer in the Ensemble and as Petruchio's mandolin-playing servant in Taming of the Shrew. Must sing well and move.

Flynt/Gremio: (to play 20s-30) she is an Aide to the domineering General Howell, and also performs as Gremio (first suitor) in Taming of the Shrew and as a dancer in the Ensemble. Must sing well (high baritone, must have good harmony skills). Must be excellent dancer. Acrobatic and tumbling skills a plus.

Riley/Hortensio: (to play 20s-30s) he is an Aide to the domineering General Howell, and also performs as Hortensio (second suitor) in Taming of the Shrew and as a dancer in the Ensemble. Must sing well (tenor, must have good CUT OFF!
