9 AM – 4 PM 3rd Floor, Mitchell Room

Please prepare a monologue (2-3 minutes) from any play by Shakespeare.

Please bring a photo and resume, stapled back-to-back.

Seeking (the following roles will be on Equity contracts (other roles will be played by students); all listed roles are available unless otherwise specified).

Note: All actors must feel comfortable working in graduate-level classes in English, Writing and Theatre. Actors are not responsible for course work, but assist faculty by exploring texts of all kinds, and facilitating class discussions.

Claudius:

45-55. King of Denmark. Hamlet’s uncle. Murderer, conniving politician.

Gertrude:

45-55. Queen. Hamlet’s mother, wife of Claudius. Aging beauty in over her head.

Polonius:

55-65. Lord Chamberlain. Doting father and busybody.

Horatio:

25–35, male or female. Hamlet’s loyal friend.

Hamlet:

CAST. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible (emergency) replacements, should any become necessary. 25-35. Prince of Denmark. Fiercely intelligent, tortured, emotionally volatile. A scholar cast in the role of an avenger.

Directions, provided by Bread Loaf:

From New York or New Jersey, and points south and west, take the NY Thruway (87 north) to exit 24 for the Northway (89). Take the Northway to exit 20 for Rte. 149 east. Take Rte. 149 east to Rte. 4 east. After entering Vermont on Rte. 4, take exit 4 for Rte. 30 north; this goes into Middlebury. As you come into Middlebury, you will see the athletic buildings for Middlebury College on the right. Take the first entrance to Middlebury College on the left just past the athletic buildings. Take an immediate right through a parking lot and onto Old Chapel Road. On the left will be McCullough. Parking in front of the building and along the road. Come in the main entrance and turn left twice to the elevator, take to the third floor. The room on this floor is known as Mitchell Green.

From Boston or points east: Take Interstate 93 north to Interstate 89 north. Follow 89 north into Vermont and take exit 3 for Bethel and Rte. 107 west. Take 107 to Rte. 100 North. Take Rte. 100 to Route 125 west. Take Route 125 west which eventually joins with Route 7 North and takes you into the town of Middlebury. At Cross Street, shift to the left lane and turn left at the light, over the bridge and to the roundabout. Exit the roundabout at the second right and hang an immediate right. Continue straight through two intersections and at the top of the hill turn left onto Old Chapel Road. McCullough will be on your right with parking along Old Chapel Road.

Come in the main entrance and turn left twice to the elevator, take to the third floor. The room on this floor is known as Mitchell Green.

Some estimates of driving times to Middlebury College: from Boston 3-4 hours; from Hartford 3-4 hours; from Albany 2-3 hours; and from New York City 5-5 1/2 hours.
