BREAKDOWN

About the play: DEATHTRAP is a comedy-thriller written by Ira Levin in 1978 with many plot twists, and which references itself as a play within a play. It is in two acts with one set and five characters. It was nominated for four Tony awards, including Best Play.

SEEKING:

Sidney Bruhl - Male, 50-65, any ethnicity. A washed-up, has-been playwright, who was once very successful but hasn't had a hit in many years. Polished, dashing, devious, clever, attractive, thinks he’s the smartest man in the room and wants everyone to know it. He is “on stage” even when at

home. Sidney is extremely ambitious and will do almost anything to get what he wants, no matter who might be in his way.

Myra Bruhl - Female, 40-60, any ethnicity. Sidney's loving and supportive wife, who is encouraging of his career and has been supporting them financially for the past few years. Sophisticated, upper-class, but embraces the country life; innocent, sweet, caring, emotional, nervous, even skittish. Her soft exterior will grow a backbone when he crosses the line.

Clifford Andersen – Male, 20-30, any ethnicity. A student of Sidney's, also a playwright. An attractive and talented young man, a young writer with a bright future ahead of him. He’s easily the smartest and most charming one in the room. And he cleverly disguises his darker ambitions with innocence, affection and naivete.

Helga Ten Dorp - Female, 30-70, any ethnicity. Dutch accent. A mysterious celebrity psychic who is confidently enjoying her fame. She goes in and out of her world and this world as she sees visions of violence and pain in the future. A brave and eccentric free-spirit who is not easily intimidated.

Porter Milgrim – Male, 35-70, any ethnicity. Sidney's friend and lawyer. Professional, sharp and observant.
