Conejo Players Theatre AUDITION NOTICE:

Bye Bye Birdie

Audition Dates: January 2 - 4, 2022, at 7PM

Audition Location: 351 So. Moorpark Rd., Thousand Oaks, CA 91360

Audition Requirements: No appointment is needed. Please come to only one of the audition dates at 7:00PM and be prepared to sing, dance and read sides. Wear dance shoes or sneakers and comfortable clothes to dance in. Prepare an approx. 16-32-bar song and bring music that is clearly marked or bring a CD accompaniment or iPad, iPhone, phone to play it on. Be prepared to wait. Non-union, NO PAY. NOTE: You will be required to show your proof of vaccination if you are cast.

Rehearsal Schedule: Monday – Friday evenings and some weekend dance rehearsal, depending on who is called for each rehearsal.

Performance Dates: March 25 through April 16, 2022. Friday and Saturday at 8PM, Sundays at 2PM. March 31 & April 7 at 8PM. April 9 & 16 at 2PM.

Plot Summary: Tony Award-Winning, smash hit Bye Bye Birdie remains as show-stopping and vibrant as ever! It’s the 1960’s in small-town America and teen heartthrob Conrad Birdie has been drafted, so he chooses All-American girl Kim MacAfee for a very public farewell kiss. Featuring a cherished and exhilarating score, plenty of great parts for teens, and a hilarious script, BIRDIE continues to thrill audiences around the world.

Character Breakdown:

Albert Peterson: The central character of the story, he is the president of Almaelou Music Corp. He is nervous and high-strung, can play 30-40- and a tenor – C flat to F Flat.

Rose Alvarez: She is Albert's secretary and girlfriend but dreams of the day when she can adjust his title from “employer” to “hubby.” The role requires a woman who can display a truly vivacious with a strong spirit and a spicy personality. Can play 25-35 years old and an alto – A flat to C. Must be a superb dancer. All Ethnicities

Conrad Birdie: He’s a star, rude and arrogant, but he is the rock star and the iconic role of the show. He’s flamboyant and a good dancer - loosely based on Elvis, this character requires very strong vocals D Flat to E Flat. He is 25-30 years old and a baritone.

Kim MacAfee: She is a 15 - 16-year-old soprano. She’s the president of Sweet Apple’s Conrad Birdie Fan Club. Through random chance, she is selected to deliver Conrad Birdie his final goodbye kiss before he leaves to join the Army. She is a typical self-absorbed teenager, all-American teenage girl of the 1950s. She must be a solid dancer, singer and energetic. Sings A to A Flat.

Ursula Merkle: 15-24. She is Kim’s best friend, and on an excitement scale of ten, Ursula hits twelve. She is a supporting character and has some wonderful moments. She’s a little quirky 15-year-old, mezzo soprano E to F, part of teen girl trio. All Ethnicities with a ton of energy.

Randolph MacAfee: Kim’s younger brother between 10-14 years old. It’s not a huge role, but it is a visible one. He is a tenor E to D and must move well.

Mr. Harry MacAfee: The father of Kim and Randolph, he is a tenor in his forties. He’s also a great source of comedy in the production.

Mrs. Doris MacAfee: The mother of Kim and Randolph, she is an alto C Flat to an F. Typical 50’s mom, gets very excited for her daughter.40-50.

Hugo Peabody: Kim’s boyfriend, a typical male teen in from the 50s. Fun loving. But can be jealous at times. This is a speaking role. Should sing and move well. Looks 15-17

Mrs. Mae Peterson: She is Albert’s adoring mother and in her late 50s or 60s. This is a comedic speaking role. Comedic timing a must, martyr to the max, Moves and sings well.

Chorus of Teens - Alice, Nancy, Penelope, Suzi, Carl, Freddie, Deborah Sue, Margie

Adult Chorus to play multiple Roles – Mayor, Mayor’s Wife, Gloria Rasputin, Mrs. Merkle, Mr. Johnson, Charles Maude, Maude’s Dishwasher, Maude’s First Customer, Maude’s Second Customer, policemen, reporters, Sweet Apple parents of teenagers, Sweet Apple Shriners, stage crew for T.V. studio, train station folks, etc. All ethnicities.

There are roles for many actors of all ages…speaking, no-speaking, singing and non-singing, dancing and not!
