Who does she have the incriminating evidence against?

I hope she dances through the nominated musicals this year for the opening number, building off last year’s montage.

Also, please bring back Julius Rubio and his hotness in the ensemble, the people demand it.

Notable that she's producing this year too, as well as choreographing the opening.  Have we seen any of her choreographic work before?

It's nice to have a host who actually likes the art being celebrated, unlike Kimmel with the Oscars.

People are always so dismissive no matter who is selected as host. But honestly, who do y'all think is doing this that would be better?

For the Tonys, you want a host who can at least sing, if not sing and dance, so we can get a great opening number. They should ideally be a theater person, but one who has crossed over into film/tv so that they have broader appeal (aka can get folks to tune in). That is already a very small pool of people. THEN you need to go to that small pool of people and actually find folks who WANT to subject themselves to the inevitable cruelty of the internet that every awards show host face. AND they have to have availability for the rehearsal and prep period AND be willing to accept the pittance of a paycheck that is offered for this gig.

I for one am glad they can get someone at Ariana's level for the job.

I mean...that's not even the lukewarm-iest of hot takes. There's been a lot of chatter about how discomfiting it can be when people known primarily for being comics host industry award ceremonies and come out guns blazing and mocking everything in sight. Let's call it the Gervais-ification of awards shows. A little bit of edge is welcome (See: Fey, Tina; Poehler, Amy). But I think there's a bit of consensus around the idea that people who actually are from the industry being celebrated is the better way to go. No one has come close to what Billy Crystal was able to do - he's a comic and a movie star. It worked beautifully. There were laughs and there was a whole lot of heart. Most comics come in with an agenda of taking the industry down a peg which is just so friggin' weird. There's nothing more awkward than the popular kid trying to be relatable by laughing a little too hard at the jokes of the mediocre class clown.

DeBose had a nearly impossible job last year during the strike and she handled it beautifully. Sure...mI understand varying it up a bit. But she's really pretty great at it. And, as an added bonus, it's lovely to a have queer woman of color taking charge of the night.

I think she's a fine host, but I do wish it was someone different. I'd love for Sarah to host again.

Why not?  It often is -- since both are on Sundays in the first half of June.    But still, what difference does it make?  MOST Father's day activities (for those that have them - I don't, my father lives over 1k miles away, my kids' father lives almost 3k miles away - our phone calls take about 20 minutes out of our morning.) are daytime events, like BBQs/Picnics.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Ariana will do a fabulous job as always, but the Tony team really has to worry about ratings. Last year, there was an added sense of intrigue with the ongoing writer's strike, and people were curious to see how the first major awards show affected by the strike would turn out to be, hence the healthy rise in viewership.

The general interest this year might be near-nonexistent. This may be a crowded season for new musicals, but not a very competitive one by any means (and no game-changer or juggernaut of sorts to gain more eyes).

Her career has completely stalled and she squandered her Oscar win. Will she get people to tune in? Nope. She's not a name. Her attempts at a film career have all flopped (Wish was a huge bomb for Disney and ISS where she was topped billed barely made $6 million in theaters). At this point she should really fire her agent & publicist, and the more time she spends doing theater related stuff the harder it will be for her to break out of the "overeager theater kid who won an Oscar thanks to a lack of competition" narrative that has already started developing around her.

I might have it wrong, and the post above that describes the practicalities of course ultimately explains everything - but what I personally find odd about DeBose is that we’ve watched someone who I’d probably describe more as a chorus girl thrust into being a star from her oscar and a couple of TV roles. But it never feels natural to me - I never get Hugh Jackman, Neil Patrick Harris, K Chenoweth, Audra, Patti LuPone or Bernadette from her presence. I get a hard working actor. I think I am more interested to watch her act than pretend to be a star. You either got it or you ain’t. We need that bit of personality stardom to elevate the evening.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

She “squandered” her Oscar win? It was only two years ago, and last year the industry totally shut down and is still recovering. Hell, her Anita predecessor Rita Moreno didn’t make a movie for seven years after she won her Oscar.

"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."

By choice. She was indeed offered lots of roles but she was adamant to not continue playing Latin specific roles so she held off. She’s said this herself. She worked on TV but held back on film work.

She's got a Marvel movie coming out. I think we can put away the black crepe for just a little bit longer.

I'm neutral on the DeBose news but I just hope the Tonys learned from last year how successful the broadcast when they focus on the work & the shows and they keep the little bits & stuff to a minimum.
