https://playbill.com/article/best-musical-winner-kimberly-akimbo-will-end-great-broadway-adventure-in-april

Broadway's Kimberly Akimbo will play its final performance April 28 at the Booth Theatre. The Tony-winning Jeanine Tesori-David Lindsay-Abaire musical began previews October 12, 2022, and opened November 10 the same year. As of the final bow, the musical will have played 32 previews and 612 regular performances.

But the show's "Great Adventure" isn't over yet. As previously announced, a national tour will kick off from Denver Center for the Performing Arts beginning in September, with casting to be announced. The full itinerary, also to be announced, will see the show traveling to 60 cities over 75 weeks.

It's an impressively long run. I figured a closing was imminent, but sooner than end-of-April.

What a sweet run for a sweet little show. Hope this does well on tour.

And by the way, this will have run longer than The Band’s Visit and Fun Home.

Saw this one three times, and just adored it. So clever, charming, and quirky. A little show with a HUGE heart. Glad it had a nice run. I think this will be a bit of a tough sell on the road, but being included in the subscription packages will definitely help.

Congratulations to the entire creative team, cast, and musicians on a wonderful run and all the critical/award love they’ve received since the Atlantic!

Of course, I never expected this to run for years and years, but this makes me so very sad. It’s such a special show and it has affected me in profound ways. I’ll definitely catch it a few more times before closing, but for now, I’m sad.

What a run this show has had! Congrats to the cast, creatives, and crew! I cannot wait to see how it does on the road later this year. I'm also hoping for a West End transfer. Some of my British friends really wanna see this cross the pond.

The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince

I’m just sad we’ll never get any number of amazing replacements for Kimberly.

Very sad but not unexpected. I’ll be at the closing performance! What an impressive run.

Great that I can catch this in my March NYC trip. Anyone recommend right vs. left orchestra seats? TIA.

Considering the current climate of Broadway today where shows are pretty much dying right out of the gate, it's unusual story that was difficult to sell to audiences, and having no major stars, it truly is amazing the show lasted as long as it did. It really was the "little show that could".

This is the first show I ever saw more than once. It was just so sweet and charming and I was reminded of that again when listening to the OBC soundtrack last night. I'm sad, but very proud of the whole cast, especially the kids. They were all so wonderful and I can't wait to see what they do next (I believe Nina did the cast reading of Queen of Versailles with Kristen Chenoweth. I hope that works out!). I will definitely stop by the Booth again before it finally closes!

I’ve no doubt this will do well regionally, as well. It’s a nice blend of fun, a little bit of edge that’s not too much for older audiences, heart, and great musical theatre writing, and roles for a variety of ages.

I’d like to think a limited-run play books the Booth for the fall, before Next to Normal likely arrives the following spring.

Loved this show and sad it will not run longer. If it tours, I will go see it again.

Someone mentioned that Swept Away was looking at the Booth. Not sure if it could squeeze in this season, though.

It is touring starting in Denver in September

A very impressive run for a show like this. I will certainly miss it though and bought a ticket for the final performance last night when I caught wind of this. I can't wait to be there for one last ride!

I think we will see a lot of regional productions pop up-I agree. And I think- I hope!- it will do well on tour

This season ends April 25, they're closing 3 days after. I'm glad they're not trying to rush anything else in this season, it's already a bit crowded.

Not possible... Cut off date is a few days before this closes.

Adored this show and wore out the cast recording when it came out. My Spotify wrapped was all Kimberly Akimbo. Bittersweet, but everyone should be so proud. I can’t wait to see who they get for the tour!

Paulson reports the show has still yet to recoup its modest $7 million capitalization.

Should it not make it into the black by closing, perhaps we could wipe some checks clean and send the necessary amount of $$$ needed to David Stone and company…

My Spotify is too!

I bought the physical CD too and when I went back to see the show again was lucky enough to get the booklet signed by all nine main cast members (Alli was very happy to see it. lol). If luck is on my side again when I go back closing week David Lindsay-Abaire and Jeanine Tesori will be there. lol

The vinyl is getting released on January 12th.

I just loved this show so much. I wish I could see it again before it closes but I won't be back in NYC before then. Congrats to all involved. It really had a great run for being the small little show that it is.
