It's just too easy to say 'dreadful',and it's not really. The set is suitably scary. More blood then we really need. Performances good to excellent. But the switching back and forth in time and place is very confusing and it's hard to keep track of who is who. The subtitle is 'Oedipus Variation' and it follows the myth closely, brushing up on it might help. The title and the quote it's related to is the best thing aboutit. 90 min. No intermission
I was very disappointed in it. Stephen Rea is a wonderful actor but eve he could save this confusing mess of a play. There are some nice soothing musicians on stage though
Seeing it in January. A friend and theater pro told whse opinion very often syncs with mine (especially on the Shepard plays we like and the ones we don't) told me yesterday he wasn't impressed. Still, the chance to see Rea - who blew me away in The Honourable Woman! - is more than enough for me.
