Based on THE MATCHMAKER by Thornton Wilder and featuring a cast of delightfully fun characters and a fabulous ensemble, HELLO, DOLLY!, first produced on Broadway in 1964, went on to win a record 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. It also broke the record as the longest running Broadway show and is in the Top 20 of all time.
Considered one of the great American musicals, this perennial favorite follows the brassy widow Dolly Gallagher Levi, who travels to Yonkers to find a match for the miserly "well-known, unmarried, half-a-millionaire" Horace Vandergelder. But sometimes, love is right around the corner.
This hit comedy delivers a timeless message about how people are more important than material wants and money. As Dolly says, "Money is like manure. It's not worth a thing unless it's spread around, encouraging young things to grow."
Jerry Herman wrote the well-loved, joyful score & lyrics to accompany Michael Stewart's highly comedic book. That's why this enduring treasure has been mounted numerous times, including the Tony Award-winning revival recently on Broadway. But you won't have to travel that far, because Upper Room Theatre is bringing Broadway to Manassas for you!
