A live performance of John Coltrane’s Africa/Brass is rarer than a total eclipse, but D.C. audiences have a chance to experience the mind-blowing album with legendary trumpeter Charles Tolliver as their adventurous, avant-garde guide. At this exclusive concert, Tolliver—who created the original transcriptions of the historic 1961 work—performs Coltrane’s music with Howard University’s award-winning vocal jazz ensemble Afro Blue, saxophonist Camille Thurman, bassist Rufus Reid, pianist Victor Gould, and drummer Darrell Green. Join us for this tribute to an album embodying the cosmic unity of mankind and music—and the deep African roots of both.
