New York and Toronto Join Forces for Unconventional Dance Performance POSSIBILITIES OF DIALOGUE

Co-created and performed by Toronto-based dance artist David Norsworthy and NYC-based dance artist Marielis Garcia, Possibilities of Dialogue is an exchange of energy and awareness through contemporary dance and a collaborative creative process with audience members. As part of North York Arts' Evolve! program, and co-presented by TOES FOR DANCE and DanceWorks (as part of their CoWorks Series), the performance will take place on Friday, April 5th and Saturday, April 6th at 8:00pm with a matinée on Sunday, April 7th at 2:00pm.

"Possibilities of Dialogue is a contemporary dance performance that is, at times, interactive with and responsive to the audience. Marielis and I will do our best to bring both our physical virtuosity and listening skills into the performance; which is almost entirely improvised based on a rigorous choreographic structure. Our role is to facilitate an inclusive experience that has the possibility of generating curiosity and connection."

- David Norsworthy, Co-Creator and Performer

"Originally conceived by asking ourselves 'what makes our work truly relevant to an audience?' Possibilities of Dialogue grew out of the need to connect not only with ourselves as co-creators,

but to connect with the audience and invite them in on the creative process."

-Marielis Garcia. Co-creator and Performer

Inspired by the parallels between making a dance and having a conversation, the performance is an abstracted collaborative creative process; moments of listening, curiosity, disagreement and spontaneity unfold through movement and text. It is often playful, lively and physically virtuosic, sometimes uncomfortable, sometimes surprising and almost always responsive to and inclusive of the audience. Audience members are welcome to observe and interact through the invitations that are offered.

Born and raised in Mississauga, Norsworthy now resides in North York having pursued his training at The Juilliard School in New York City between 2009-2013, and first met Garcia in 2016 when both dance artists were performing at the same dance company. Possibilities of Dialogue was co-conceived during a residency at Dance Initiative in Colorado in 2017, and then further developed through residences in New York supported by Kaatsbaan International Dance Center, ArtsOnSite and Inception to Exhibition. This premiere is funded by the Toronto Arts Council, the Canada Council for the Arts and Norsworthy's 2018 Emerging Artist Finalist Award through the Toronto Arts Foundation.

Possibilities of Dialogue is choreographed and performed by David Norsworthy (Toronto) and Marielis Garcia (New York), with music by Noah Malcolm (Toronto) and Brad Wentworth (New York), and lighting design by Gabriel Cropley (Toronto). The project is mentored by JoAnna Shaw (New York), Peter Kyle (New York), Michael Caldwell (Toronto), and Andrea Roberts (Toronto).
