Visual Arts Center Of NJ Receives IMLS Grant To Partner With Elizabeth Public Schools

The Institute of Museum and Library Sciences (IMLS) recently awarded the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey a $45,000 grant to further expand their programs for English Language Learners, conducted in partnership with Elizabeth Public Schools. The grant will allow the Art Center and Elizabeth Public Schools to continue their program to teach language and literacy skills to immigrant students through the use of contemporary art. This program has been created with the assistance of the CALTA21 (Cultures & Literacies through Art for the 21st Century), a national initiative focused on creating a dynamic environment where museums provide authentic, meaningful, and engaging learning experiences to immigrant communities. The new curriculum, which will be taught to 8th and 9th graders, uses art and museums as a catalyst for learning and will align with existing Bilingual Spanish English Language Arts, ESL and Bilingual Spanish Social Studies curricula in the Elizabeth School System.

More Than 2500 Young People Will See WAR HORSE At Schools Performances This Week

Today the matinee performance of the National Theatre's acclaimed production of War Horse at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre had a special audience made up of more than 1,300 young people from state schools across the Borough of Brent. This performance was introduced by author Michael Morpurgo, who welcomed the young people, saying, 'It's completely wonderful for War Horse to be performed to an auditorium full of young people, many of whom will have never set foot in a theatre before. These are the most important audiences and I shall be sat there right alongside them, only perhaps crying a little more.'

Four Levels of Orchestras in InterSchool Orchestras of New York to Be Featured In The Winter Celebration

The Winter Celebration concert features the four levels of orchestras in InterSchool Orchestras of New York including Morningside, Carnegie Hill, Concert Orchestra and the ISO Symphony, conducted by Dr. Matt Rotjan, Steve Rochen, Joseph Meyers, and Barry Stern respectively. The ISO Symphony will be joined on stage by Renée Manning and members of Mingus Dynasty, providing a snapshot of ISO's dynamic season and showcasing the achievement of the students.

Center Theatre Group Applications Now Available For Disney Musicals In Schools Program

In 2017, Center Theatre Group was awarded a grant from Disney to bring the Disney Musicals in Schools program to the Los Angeles area. The program is an initiative developed by Disney Theatrical Productions to create sustainable theatre programs in under-resourced elementary schools. Center Theatre Group will select four area public elementary schools to participate in this year's program. Previous recipients have included Breed Street Elementary (LAUSD), Cantara Street School (LAUSD), Harrison Elementary (LAUSD), Hope Street Elementary (LAUSD), Humphreys Avenue Elementary (LAUSD), La Ballona Elementary (Culver City Unified School District), Ritter Elementary (LAUSD), Saturn Street Elementary (LAUSD), Tulsa Street Elementary (LAUSD) and Wild Rose School of Creative Arts (Monrovia Unified School District).
