Produced by Regional Arts NSW in partnership with Arts Northern Rivers, Artstate is an exciting four-day arts event aiming to build on the vibrancy of the arts sector in regional areas. The event will encompass a stimulating and inspiring two-day conference program alongside an exciting and diverse multi-genre arts program showcasing the best in arts and performance from Northern NSW creatives. Featured speakers in the program include British-Indian composer and virtuoso player of the sarod, Soumik Datta; Director of the Norway international indigenous arts and culture festival, Riddu Ri??u Festivála, Karoline Trollvik; and member of the Bundjalung nation Rhoda Roberts, who is Head of Indigenous Programming, Sydney Opera House. Alongside the speakers’ program will be an arts program that is open to the public and includes three days of free music, film and family programming at the new Quadrangle Precinct; a special presentation from local theatre company, Northern Rivers Performing Arts, with the world premiere of their new production Djurra; a free public concert by the Regional Youth Orchestra NSW; a new interactive children’s work from Roundabout Theatre, Colours; and Cheeky Cabaret presented by Brett Haylock from the revamped Brunswick Picture House. Alleyways, nooks and crannies, underground rooms, halls and streets will all come alive with weird and wonderful happenings and site-specific surprises.
