Ursprungligen producerad på West End av Disney Theatrical Productions & Sonia Friedman Productions, i regi av Declan Donnellan, scenografi av Nick Ormerod, med musik av Paddy Cuneen.
Året är 1593. Will Shakespeare har skrivkramp. Han har en vag idé om en ny pjäs – men än har han bara namnet på en rollfigur - Romeo.
Varje kväll sitter unga Viola De Lesseps i publiken på The Rose. Hon kan alla repliker i Will Shakespeares gamla pjäser utantill - hennes dröm är att själv stå på scenen. Tyvärr omöjligt – skådespelaryrket är bara öppet för män. Dessutom måste Viola gifta sig med Lord Wessex – en adlig men urfattig fjant i behov av en rejäl hemgift.
Så en dag dyker en späd yngling med mustasch upp på en audition för rollen som Romeo i Wills ännu ofärdiga pjäs. Han får i uppdrag att kyssa Will som spelar Julia. Och herregud vilken kyss!
Shakespeare in Love gjorde sitt segertåg som film i slutet av 1990-talet med flera Oscars. Här i regi av Ronny Danielsson som står bakom flera av Kulturhuset Stadsteaterns riktigt stora succéer, bland annat Billy Elliot, Ronja Rövardotter, Cabaret och Hair. I rollerna som Will och Viola, Alexander Karim och Sofia Ledarp.
