Irish Arts Center Announces Fall 2016 Season

Today, Irish Arts Center (IAC), the arts and cultural center dedicated to projecting a dynamic image of Ireland and Irish America for the 21st century, announces the lineup for its fall 2016 season, September 8 - December 17. IAC takes great pride in showcasing a broad range of some of Ireland's greatest artistic talent, in collaborating with American artists and arts institutions alike, and continuing to strengthen the transatlantic bonds of Irish-American culture. Featuring the works of several frequent IAC collaborators, including Paul Muldoon,Cassandra Wilson, Declan O'Rourke and Christine Tobin, as well as the premiere of several new works, the season epitomizes the dynamic vision IAC has for Irish culture in America at the outset of Ireland's centenary year of independence.

Beginning its 42nd season, Theatre for Young America is offering an varied season of plays:: two Kansas City premieres; a world premiere; some traditional favorites; and a Halloween night-time presentation. The 2015-16 season begins with a Siamese cat's imaginative excursion to Mexico, and ends with a boy's magical encounter with a giant. Six of the presentations are based directly upon children's literature. The season runs from October 13, 2015 through June 24, 2016. All productions will be presented on the H&R Block City Stage, located on level B in Union Station Kansas City. Union Station is located at 30 West Pershing Road, Kansas City, Missouri.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (August 27, 2014) – The San Francisco Symphony (SFS) continues its popular Film Series in the 2014-15 season, offering a wide range of critically-acclaimed films projected above the Davies Symphony Hall stage with their powerful musical scores performed as live orchestral accompaniment. The series opens September 27 with The Wizard of Oz and its Academy Award-winning film score, in celebration of the film's 75th Anniversary year. December 12 & 13 the SFS is joined by over 150 children's voices for the holiday favorite Home Alone with score by John Williams. The U.S. premiere of Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather with live orchestral accompaniment of the film's haunting score by Nino Rota follows, January 9-10. A celebration of iconic choreography on March 28, Gotta Dance! Great Moments of Dance in Film highlights choreographed scenes from 2001: A Space Odyssey, Brigadoon, Madame Bovary, and An American in Paris, among others. The series closes on April 25 with a program saluting Chinese composer Tan Dun's film scores, including his Oscar- and Grammy-winning score to Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Zhang Yimou'sHero, and Feng Xiaogang's The Banquet. On Halloween, a restoration of the 1920 black & white film Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde will be accompanied by the improvisations of Todd Wilson on Davies Symphony Hall's mighty Ruffatti organ. The series follows the sold out inaugural series in 2013-14 which presented a week of Hitchcock films, A Night at the Oscars, Charlie Chaplin's silent film City Lights, and selections from Disney's classicFantasia films.

Halloween is all about screams and screens this fall as the scariest time of the year celebrates The Golden Age of Spanish Horror Cinema at Anthology Film Archives. The series is presented by the legendary film center and Spain Culture New York-Consulate General of Spain and co-presented by The Philip K. Dick Science Fiction Film Festival. Spanish film critic Francisco Javier Pulido Samper curated the highly anticipated event to be held from October 30 through November 10, 2013. The astounding two-week series features a special Halloween Night program on October 31 and will screen a total of eleven classics from filmmakers whose legendary approaches to the industry have captivated generations of audiences and unleashed some of the most riveting moments in Spanish horror film history.
