What happens when the squares of Seville meet the streets of New York? Find out on April 26 when Carmen's Place (A Fantasy) opens at the Castillo Theatre on 42nd Street, running until June 16. Featuring some of opera's best-loved music as well as six original musical numbers, Carmen's Place (A Fantasy) is helmed by the 2012 AUDELCO Award winner for directing, Gabrielle L. Kurlander, whose production of Sally and Tom (The American Way) was a popular and critical success at Castillo last season.

FORROBOD�": First Hit Brazilian Musical Celebrates 100 Years with Revival

Chiquinha Gonzaga, (1847/1935) was the first woman to compose for the musical theatre in Brazil. Chiquinha was an active citizen, involved in all kinds of social movements that took place during her age in Brazil, such as the Abolition of Slavery and even the Republican movement. Chiquinha is most known for her works for the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, such as Ó Abre Alas, and theatrical composition as FORROBODÓ, which opened at the begining of the last century, on 11th June, 1912. The show had an extraordinary run of 1500 performances. Next month FORROBODÓ will be revived ( the opening night will be tonight, 11th, June, 2012) with a new production in Rio de Janeiro, brought by Thiago Cantarelli and Vitavision Audiovisual Ltda, with the Musical Direction of Roberto Carelli, also in charge for the new orchestration of the score (based on Gonzaga's originals).

In conjunction with the new exhibition, Collecting Matisse and Modern Masters: The Cone Sisters of Baltimore, The Jewish Museum is presenting three related lectures. On Monday, May 9 at 11:30 am, exhibition curator Karen Levitov will give a lecture entitled Visionary Collectors: The Cone Sisters of Baltimore; Julie Reiss, Associate Professor in the Master's Program at Christie's Education, will lecture on Pablo Picasso in the Cone Collection on Monday, May 16 at 11:30 am; and on Thursday, May 19 at 6:30 pm, Dr. Jack Flam, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Art History at Brooklyn College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, will present A Feminine Mystique: The Special Qualities of the Cone Matisses.
