What did our critic think of ANAK JAKSEL THE MUSICAL! at Gedung Kesenian Jakarta? Yasmara Creation & Boss Creator’s Anak Jaksel the Musical! ran for two shows on Saturday, March 9th, 2024 at Gedung Kesenian Jakarta. This is the showrunners’ comeback show after Sumpah 100 Tahun back in 2016.

DRAG: The Musical, written by drag superstar Alaska Thunderf**k (with Tomas Costanza and Ashley Gordon), will be returning to The Bourbon Room March 15, 2024 on its way to its New York debut. Emmy-nominated Spencer Liff again directs and choreographs, this time with the cast of Alaska, Nick Adams, Joey McIntyre, Jujubee, Manila Luzon, Jan Sport, Lagoona Bloo, Nick Laughlin, Jamie Torcellini, J. Elaine Marcos and Kayden Koshelev. I had already interviewed Alaska for the 2022 production. This time Joey McIntyre was able to join my Q&A.

WICKED comes to town this week! And even though it’s running for nearly two weeks, don’t expect to get seats for much longer, because this show is (yes, I’m going to say it, so go ahead and sing it yourself) POPular. WICKED is in fact, pushing up against THE LION KING as the highest grossing musical of all time. This stands to reason, as it is based on what is arguably the most influential film of all time, The Wizard of Oz. WICKED actually has its roots in lesser known novels also called Wicked, by author Gregory McGuire. And now, after fourteen years of various delays, the film version will finally be released later this year.

The beloved concert series STANDARD TIME WITH MICHAEL FEINSTEIN continued on February 28th at Carnegie Hall’s intimate Zankel Hall stage. Whether you want a chance to hear American Songbook standards performed live by a true master, or you’re looking to dive deeper and learn more, Feinstein is marvelous to watch. He returns to Carnegie on March 27th.

THE NERD is frankly still THE NERD, and the director, Brandon Weinbrenner, doesn’t reinvent much of anything. There’s nothing new or fresh, and the script is presented almost as if it would have run back in 1981. There is no discernable reason to remount this show save for the idea that it was fun back in the day.

Today’s subject Psalmayene 24 is someone we can aptly classify as the whole package when we talk about artists in the DC theatre community. He is an accomplished writer/actor/performer and educator whose work has been enjoyed by audiences of all ages over the years. Currently Psalmayene 24 is the director of Arena Stage’s current Power Play entitled Tempestuous Elements. The show is currently playing in the company’s Fichandler space through March 17th.

Chase Wolfe was born in Texas and raised in South Carolina. He performed often as a child, but heeded his parents’ wishes and double-majored in Chinese and Chemistry. After two years working in the home fragrance industry, he took a giant leap of faith to make the arts his career. He is currently playing Edward Lewis, the role made famous by Richard Gere, in PRETTY WOMAN: THE MUSICAL, which lands in Montreal’s Salle Wilfred Pelletier on March 5 and runs through March 10.

One of his next shows in Los Angeles will be his Open Mic Event at the Write-Off Room March 22, 2024. Michael managed to answer a few of my queries during his drive to Palm Springs.  

Woohoo to semester two! I am, currently, a CCC (California Community College) student with plans to transfer to Cal Poly Pomona. Unlike many of my fellow bloggers, I am not a Theatre Arts major pursuing my BFA. It was a hard decision to not pursue my passion through a degree, but I couldn’t be happier (Thank Goodness!).
