Teddy hopes to find closure on the time in his life with Clark, a former classmate, and brings us into the past where it all began: 7th grade at a new school in the early 2000s. After being shunned by the rest of their classmates, Teddy and Clark have a sleepover that takes an unexpected and uncomfortable direction. They then fall out of touch when Clark is expelled until Teddy receives an AIM message from Clark late in the night.

The conversation incites an online communication over a decade that’s part friendship, part adversary, part sexual exploration. As their communication progresses, it bleeds into Teddy’s own life and sense of intimacy, identity, and sexuality. Teddy once again fails to find closure in re-telling this experience to an audience and forces us to question our own perception of what really happened.

Review: MJ - THE MUSICAL Moonwalks Into OC's Segerstrom Center
by Michael Quintos - Mar 23, 2024

An overall resounding triumph despite its insistence on side-stepping some of the more salacious scandals associated with its subject, pop star Michael Jackson—MJ - THE MUSICAL is a genuinely entertaining and nostalgic show that purposely aims to celebrate the creative, if misunderstood genius behind some of the biggest hits in pop music history.

Review: SWEENEY TODD is a Bloody Good Time at Palm Canyon Theatre
by Charlie Thomas - Mar 13, 2024

What is it about a good horror story that draws audiences by the cart load?  Is it the adrenaline surge of danger around every corner, even as the viewer remains safely out of danger? Or is it the exploration of the dark side of man’s psyche, feeding a vicarious blood lust in the deep recesses of our primordial hind brains? Or, is it a bit of schadenfreude, particularly if the victim is “deserving”?  All of things await the anxious theatregoer in Palm Canyon’s Theatre’s latest venture, Steven’s Sondheim’s macabre masterpiece “Sweeney Todd”.

Interview: Kyle McArthur of WICKED THE MUSICAL at Bass Concert Hall
by Joni Lorraine - Mar 11, 2024

WICKED comes to town this week! And even though it’s running for nearly two weeks, don’t expect to get seats for much longer, because this show is (yes, I’m going to say it, so go ahead and sing it yourself) POPular. WICKED is in fact, pushing up against THE LION KING as the highest grossing musical of all time. This stands to reason, as it is based on what is arguably the most influential film of all time, The Wizard of Oz. WICKED actually has its roots in lesser known novels also called Wicked, by author Gregory McGuire. And now, after fourteen years of various delays, the film version will finally be released later this year.

Review: THE NERD Waxes Nostalgic at ALLEY THEATRE
by Brett Cullum - Mar 6, 2024

THE NERD is frankly still THE NERD, and the director, Brandon Weinbrenner, doesn’t reinvent much of anything. There’s nothing new or fresh, and the script is presented almost as if it would have run back in 1981. There is no discernable reason to remount this show save for the idea that it was fun back in the day.

Student Blog: A Performer NOT Pursuing a BFA
by Student Blogger: Brynna Weir - Mar 4, 2024

Woohoo to semester two! I am, currently, a CCC (California Community College) student with plans to transfer to Cal Poly Pomona. Unlike many of my fellow bloggers, I am not a Theatre Arts major pursuing my BFA. It was a hard decision to not pursue my passion through a degree, but I couldn’t be happier (Thank Goodness!).
