Coronado Playhouse announces a one-night-only Special Event: Notes From My Shelf: The Songs of Ian Brandon playing Monday, March 30, 2020 at Coronado Playhouse.

Since moving to San Diego from London a little over a year ago Ian Brandon has rapidly been turning heads and bending ears in our city's esteemed musical theatre scene having garnered work at notable houses such as La Jolla Playhouse (WOW Festival), Diversionary Theatre (A Kind of Weather - February, 2020), and of course, Coronado Playhouse (Cabaret, The Old Man and The Old Moon and The Winter's Tale). His impressive list of accomplishments from his native UK include Musical Direction credits encompassing National Tours and London's West End theatres.

In addition to these accomplishments, Mr. Brandon is also a prolific songwriter. He's written everything from parody and comedy songs (from London's Kids from Shame Review to his award-winning musical comedy act, Scales of the Unexpected) to heartfelt, emotional ballads and torch songs. His potential was quickly recognized by professional directors and producers which resulted not only in fully staged musicals, but also stand-alone cabaret songs and incidental music for plays and films.

Notable Broadway composer Jason Robert Brown's Songs For A New World came into existence over a period of six years when Daisy Prince-the actor/director daughter of Broadway legend Hal Prince-persuaded him to revisit songs that were written for other events and shows and that would not have made it into the contemporary musical theatre canon were it not for Prince's insistence that they deserved to be heard. Inspired by this, Notes From My Shelf played to a sell-out, appreciative audience in 2013 at London's famous Battersea Barge as a cabaret performance of Mr. Brandon's "orphan" songs written with several London-based lyricists,

Since then, he has consistently received requests for these initial numbers from professional singers on both sides of the Atlantic, for auditions and their own cabaret performances. Fast forward to 2020, San Diego. Not only has Mr. Brandon moved to a new continent, he's also continued to develop as a composer collaborating with several U.S. lyricists. Now firmly established on the west coast he is delighted to call San Diego home and is thrilled to share his music, including brand-new material, with local audiences who have supported his work here, and who have inspired so much of his recent compositions. He thanks Coronado Playhouse for hosting the world premiere of this new and augmented version of the theatrical song cycle, Notes From My Shelf.

This evening, Ian will accompany four local performers: Sydney Joyner, Andrew Paiva, Dakota Ringer & Kylie Young, all of whom jumped at the opportunity not only to work with him again but to explore this never-before-heard material at the Playhouse. Joining our San Diego- based artists on stage will be LA's Tom Lenk. Mr. Brandon and Mr. Lenk (Transformers, Cabin In The Woods, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel, Workin' Moms and Rock of Ages on Broadway) will perform some of their new material from their latest creative collaboration.

Tickets are $15 General Admission and are available through Coronado Playhouse's Box Office at (619) 435-4856 or online at www.CoronadoPlayhouse.com.
