RDT's REGALIA Offers 4 Aspiring Choreographers The Chance To Create Work For RDT

Repertory Dance Theatre celebrates 53 years of revolutionary modern dance with their annual fundraiser and choreographer competition, REGALIA, on February 9, 2019, at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center. The competition brings four talented and aspiring choreographers the chance to win a commission for RDT in the 2019-2020 season.

This year, RDT is thrilled to have Rebecca Aneloski, Nancy Carter, Catherine Kamrath, and Demitri Peskov competing for votes from audience members to be awarded a chance to create a new commission for RDT's 2019-2020 season.

Rebecca Aneloski is a performing artist and freelance choreographer based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Originally from Colorado, Rebecca received her BFA in Ballet from Friends University in 2013. She joined Idaho Dance Theatre as an apprentice for the 2013-2014 season. In the fall of 2017, Rebecca graduated with an MFA in Modern Dance from the University of Utah and joined SALT Contemporary Dance for their 2017-2018 season. Rebecca currently teaches at Weber State University and is in a creative process working with Salt Lake City-based dance artists for an upcoming work titled "Taste".

Cat Kamrath is a dance artist currently residing in Salt Lake City. As a dance performer, choreographer, filmmaker, and educator, her career has spanned throughout the state of California and now east into the mountains. She received her MFA in Modern Dance from the University of Utah in 2016 and her BA in Dance with honors from Loyola Marymount University in 2013. Her choreographic works have been presented in San Francisco, Salt Lake City, and Los Angeles. Cat is the Artistic Director of Cat + Fish Dances, established in 2015. Cat has a love for the art of teaching dance. She is currently on faculty at Weber State University and guest teaches at dance studios throughout the Salt Lake Valley.

Dmitri Peskov is the Artistic Director of Snow College's Dance Ensemble and was born in Moscow, Russia where he studied martial arts at a number of underground clubs and ballet at Tatiana Timofeeva Dance Center. His works have been presented throughout the U.S. and Russia and commissioned by such companies as Nash Dance Theatre, Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre, Joel Hall & Dancers, Madison Ballet, Jacksonville Dance Theatre, Northern Dance Theatre as well as a number of university dance programs. The Chicago Tribune newspaper praised his dance compositions for being "poetic and alternately beautiful and honest" and according to Chicago Sun Times dance and theatre critic Hedy Weiss, "he is both a choreographer and performer to be reckoned with."

Nancy Simpson Carter is a dancer, aerialist, choreographer, bodyworker, and movement researcher from North Carolina based in Salt Lake City, Utah. She is a teacher and performer with Aerial Arts of Utah and runs her own business, Rumble Motion Massage and Movement. Nancy's choreography has been performed most notably at TEDx Salt Lake City. Nancy earned her BA in Dance from Meredith College, where she concentrated in somatic studies and performance/choreography. She earned her Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analysis Certification through the Integrated Movement Studies program and her MFA in Modern Dance at The University of Utah and has studied aerial arts with New England Center for Circus Arts. Nancy has taught semester courses at The University of Utah and Utah Valley University, as well as master classes at various schools.

REGALIA ticket holders are invited to arrive at 6:30 pm to watch these talented choreographers at work. They will see the final touches as choreographers begin working at 2 pm. While they wander the studios, audience members will enjoy a lively pre-show cocktail party with heavy hors d'oeuvres and cocktails from Utah Food Services.

Everyone will enter the theatre at 8:00 pm to see each newly completed piece performed. Afterward, audience members will vote using "bidding paddles" in the theatre to raise money for a commission to be completed next season as well as for RDT's celebrated free school outreach that will reach over 50,000 students and teachers in Utah every year.

Afterward, all are invited on to the Jeanne Wagner stage to enjoy delectable desserts from Utah Food Services and dance the night away to the sounds of the Joe Muscolino Band. The commission will be awarded at 10 pm on stage.

How REGALIA works:

6:30-8:00 pm // COCKTAIL PARTY Guests are invited to watch choreographers work in studios, enjoy signature cocktails & heavy appetizers from Utah Food Services, and peruse silent auction items.

8:00 pm // Performance. All pieces are performed in the Jeanne Wagner Theatre. Audience members will "vote with their wallet" using paddles live in the theatre to decide which choreographer will be awarded with a new commission for RDT next season.

9:00 pm // After Party. All are welcome up on to the stage for dancing and dessert with the Joe Muscolino Band. Learn More
