On May 21, 1796, enslaved maid Ona Judge seized her freedom from the President's House in Philadelphia while George and Martha Washington ate dinner. OdysseyStage presents the world premiere of Ona by Keith Burridge, a powerful play about Ona Judge, an enslaved woman who dared to escape from America's first family. Penned by award-winning NC playwright Keith Burridge and directed by Amelia Lumpkin, this riveting true story of courage and freedom, staring rising star Monica Hoh as Ona and North Carolina’s First Lady Kristin Cooper as First Lady Martha Washington, promises a transformative theatrical experience. Join us to witness history through a woman-centric perspective as it shines a light on the extraordinary resilience of Ona Judge. Performed at Burning Coal Theatre September 14-17.
