Tradition combined with modernity. The orchestral suite by Mendelssohn-Bartholdy (the world of the royal court), next to him the cosmic György Ligeti (the world of elves), and finally the sound of the barrel organ (the world of craftsmen) like a melody of the street. Out of these spaces of sound John Neumeier – one of the greatest choreographers
in the history of ballet, creator of the Hamburg Ballet’s success – created a work based on Shakespeare’s comedy in which passions are mixed with amusement, amorous adventures with vulgar jokes. And only one thing remains unknown: whether the nocturnal cosmos really happened or was all just a dream (in which the ubiquitous but also
slightly lost Puck calls the tune). All this is choreographed to the highest standard, performed breathtakingly. Theseus-Oberon, Hippolyta-Titania,
Lysander, Hermia, Demetrius, Helena, Puck... Oh, how they dance!
