Separated in childhood, the Venetian twins each arrive in Verona looking for love. Mistaken identities and madness ensue. Stolen jewels, lovers’ duels and a death by poison fuel Carlo Goldoni’s 1748 comic masterpiece. Influenced by Molière, Goldoni removed the masks and introduced psychological realism and social commentary to the stock characters of commedia dell’arte, resulting in one of the funniest plays ever written. Quintessence will present THE VENETIAN TWINS in a translation by celebrated British playwright Ranjit Bolt.
