Today, singer-songwriter Nikki Jean follows her Rhymesayers Entertainment debut project, Beautiful Prison, with a self-directed short film celebrating women of color: Get Free. The film features a dozen other artists and entrepreneurs including Goldie Patrick, Veronica Zacharias, Ama Law, Tashira Halyard, April Manuel, Ebony Westbrook, Onrae Watkins, Kacey Williams, Zewditu Jewel, Anika Hobbs, and more. As this project continues to develop, Nikki Jean hopes to use her platform to share the stories of other inspired women.

A new video was released today celebrating the hit musical Girl from the North Country. Filmed in the Dylan Room at the historic Troubadour in London, the video features stars Rachel John (Mrs. Neilsen in the West End and Toronto productions) and Jeannette Bayardelle (Mrs. Neilsen at The Public and on Broadway) meeting and performing together for the first time. Today, contemporary folk luminary Rhiannon Giddens and 11-time Grammy Award-winning acclaimed songwriter and producer Daniel Lanois, alongside his band Heavy Sun, have released newly reimagined tracks from  The Music of Red Dead Redemption 2:  Original Soundtrack as Amazon Originals. Giddens performs an austere banjo-accompanied version of the ballad 'Cruel World,' while Daniel Lanois turns in a soulful and shimmering rendition of his song “That's The Way It Is.” The tracks are now available to stream only on Amazon Music and in Ultra HD on Amazon Music HD.

John Prine's new acoustic video for his song “Paradise,” featuring special guest Kelsey Waldon, premiered yesterday at Sounds Like Nashville. The song was recorded as part of the pair's new collaborative 7-inch vinyl, The Kentucky Sessions, which is included with each purchase of Waldon's new album White Noise/White Lines—out October 4 via Prine's independent label Oh Boy Records. 

Nashville-based storyteller Jeremy Iveyhas released his debut album The Dream and the Dreamer today. Ivey has operated in the background for years, initially performing in bands like Secret Handshake and country-soul group Buffalo Clover with his wife, celebrated country-rock luminary Margo Price. But now, at 40, Ivey is ready to take a much-deserved step into the spotlight. Ivey recently sat down with Rolling Stone to chat about his early 40's ambitions, being adopted and recently listening to Springsteen's Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J.for the first time.

John Prine won two awards at last night's Americana Music Association Honors & Awards: Album of the Year (The Tree of Forgiveness) and Song of the Year (“Summer's End” written by Prine and Pat McLaughlin). The reigning 2017 and 2018 Americana Artist of the Year, Prine also performed “Angel From Montgomery” with Bonnie Raitt during last night's ceremony.

“I've spent a good amount of time when I didn't have a working vehicle on a Greyhound bus seeing the country from a big dirty window,” singer and songwriter Jeremy Ivey says of his latest song's inspirations. “Everyone on a Greyhound seems homeless, even if it's just a temporary thing. In transit, between two lives. Everyone seems like they are in the throes of some intense drama. An alcoholic returning to a rehab in Tuscaloosa, a retired tollbooth operator with a Christmas present for his estranged son in Chattanooga. It's like a mobile society. A modern caravan through a burned out Canaan.”

Setting out across a 1975 America exhausted politically, economically and socially, a busload of musicians-assembled by Bob Dylan-hits the road in search of new creative horizons. The resulting tour, the Rolling Thunder Revue, would reveal a Dylan rarely seen: playful, mask-wearing, intense, expansive, rejuvenated.  Masterfully capturing both an icon and a nation in transition, director Martin Scorsese tells the tale using footage that was abandoned for decades, now gorgeously restored, taking viewers into the heart of a freewheeling, electrifying musical gamble. Inspired by Dylan's own restless spirit, Scorsese performs some breathtaking sleight of hand, summoning nostalgic fantasists, boxers, magicians, starlets and testifiers of all stripes, and exploding the boundaries of what makes a conventional documentary.

The Public Theater will begin previews for the North American premiere of GIRL FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY on Tuesday, September 11 with a Free First Preview performance. This new musical was initially extended through Sunday, November 18, and has been extended an additional three weeks through Sunday, December 9

This afternoon, singer Jennifer Hudson joined an all-star lineup of performers taking to the stage at the March for Our Lives to end gun violence. Hudson closed out the afternoon with a powerful gospel rendition of the Bob Dylan classic, 'The Times They Are A-Changin' backed by a full choir. See the inspiring performance here. 

Woody Sez: The Life and Music of Woody Guthrie, a summer '17 off-Broadway hit, is currently playing a limited engagement at Westport Country Playhouse, January 9 - 20. The joyful, touching, and tumultuous tale of 'America's greatest folk poet' is told using Guthrie's own words and over two dozen of his indelible songs, including 'This Land Is Your Land,' 'Union Maid,' 'Deportees,' and 'This Train Is Bound for Glory.'

Weaving tales of his Manhattan childhood and adolescence raised by his indomitable Aunt Lillian through the lens of the tumultuous decade of the 1960's, Charles will be singing a great songbook from Broadway to Pop, featuring the work of among others Burt Bacharach, Jimmy Webb, the Beatles, Henry Mancini, Bob Dylan, Stephen Sondheim and Kander and Ebb. Songs include Two for the Road, Anyone Who Had a Heart and The Times They Are A-Changin'.
