Next up at the Getty Villa Theater Lab, Guelan Varela-Luarca and Chay Yew’s The House of Baluyot: A Filipino Oresteia for two performances only November 18th and 19th. Guelan and Chay also direct this work-in-progress with the cast of Ramon de Ocampo, Tess Lina, Zandi De Jesus, Reggie Lee, Andres Paul Ramacho and Amielynn Abellera. Chay found some time from prepping his many, many directorial obligations to answer a few pf my queries.

Getty Villa Theater Lab will present The House of Baluyot: A Filipino Oresteia, an epic saga of power, displacement, and crime in an immigrant Filipino family in California.

The world premiere of This Is Not a True Story, written by Preston Choi and directed by Reena Dutt, is set for a five-week run, September 16 through October 15, at The Los Angeles Theatre Center. Two low-priced previews take place on September 14 and September 15.

Snehal Desai, Producing Artistic Director of East West Players (EWP) the nation’s longest-running Asian American theater and the largest producer of Asian American theatrical works, has announced the extension of the world premiere musical On This Side of the World.

Next up at East West Players, the world premiere of On This Side of the World co-produced with FilAm ARTS and opening May 14, 2023 (with previews beginning May 11th). Noam Shapiro directs the cast of Steven-Adam Agdeppa, Zandi De Jesus, Michael C. Palma, Cassie Simone, Andrea Somera and Shaun Tuazon, with understudies Melvin Biteng and Justine Rafael. East West Players alumni Michael took some time from his rehearsals and photography to answer a few of my queries.
