The Gateway is thrilled to announce its 2017 Season! The Gateway's new season features five dazzling Broadway hits: RENT, Swing!, On the Town, Mamma Mia!, and Little Shop of Horrors. Tickets start at $59 and go on sale to the public on Tuesday, March 21 at 10am. Student and youth prices are available for select shows. Full Season Subscription Memberships are available now through March 20th. Season Subscription memberships include tickets to all five Main Stage shows and exclusive membership perks. William 'Count' Basie started the Count Basie Orchestra in 1935 in Kansas City, Mo. In his early days as a performer, Basie garnered experience as a silent movie pianist and organist, and eventually worked with the Theater Owners Booking Agency (TOBA) circuit. The TOBA was the vaudeville circuit for African-American performers during the 1920's and 1930's.

Arete Productions, the performance arm of Santa Barbara School of Performing Arts (SB SOPA), will present the Broadway hit musical 13,a grown-up story about growing up, at the Marjorie Luke Theater this weekend, May 30 and 31, with a preview and showcase on May 29, featuring local artists, SOPA star alumni and the Inner Light Community Gospel Choir. Proceeds from the showcase will benefit Santa Barbara School of Performing Arts scholarship students.

Conceived by Paul Kelly, SWING! is a high-energy song-and-dance revue that celebrates the music of the Swing era of jazz (1930s-1946) and includes well-known tunes by legendary artists, such as Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, William 'Count' Basie and others. Songs from the original SWING! score include: It Don't Mean a Thing (If it Ain't Got that Swing), Throw That Girl Around, Hit Me With a Hot Note and Watch Me Bounce, Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree, In the Mood, Blues in the Night, Cry Me a River and All of Me.
