Pulitzer Prize-nominated playwright Rebecca Gilman will mark her 10th production at Goodman Theatre, her longtime creative home, with Swing State—directed by Tony Award-winner Robert Falls in their 6th collaboration over 35 years. Swing State appears October 7 – November 13 in the 350-seat flexible Owen Theatre.

Barrio Logan's Monarch School Celebrates Opening Of New Arts Center 'The Chrysalis'

Leaders at the Monarch School in Barrio Logan are finalizing the festivities of the Monarch Metamorphosis Art Exhibition, to be held May 11, 12, and 13, 2022, which signals the grand opening of their long-awaited new center for the arts, The Chrysalis: Monarch School's Center for the Arts. This center, just a few blocks from the main campus, is a unique community space and will support Monarch School's innovative Creative Youth Development (CYD) programs specifically designed for Monarch School students. The exhibition will be open to the public on Wednesday, May 11 and Thursday, May 12, along with a ticketed cocktail reception on Friday, May 13, and will feature works of art from local artists and Monarch students.

Today, Falls announced his intention to step down next summer at the completion of the current 2021/2022 Season.
Cast Announced For Kristine Thatcher's Bio-Drama VOICE OF GOOD HOPE at City Lit Theater

Cast and design team have been announced for City Lit Theater's second production of the 2019-2020 season, Kristine Thatcher's VOICE OF GOOD HOPE, a bio-drama of Barbara Jordan, the first African American congresswoman from the Deep South. Jordan earned national stature in the 1970's as a member of the House Judiciary Committee that considered articles of impeachment against Richard Nixon and as the keynote speaker of the 1976 Democratic National Convention. Kristine Thatcher, who is City Lit's playwright-in-residence, was nominated for Best New Work in the 2019 Jeff Awards for her play, THE SAFE HOUSE, which premiered at City Lit last fall. VOICE OF GOOD HOPE premiered at Victory Gardens Theater in 2000 and has been produced across the US since then. Press opening is Sunday, January 19, 2020.
