I have seen many Flamenco shows over the years, but Sara Baras' SHADOWS, playing in New York City Center's Flamenco Festival, is the most exciting one I've seen yet.

One of the most illustrious artists from Spain, flamenco titaness Sara Baras is known around the world for her fiery grace and elegant precision. She returns to New York City Center, on March 7 - 10, with Shadows - a testament to female power and transcendence featuring La Farruca - a style of flamenco normally only performed by men. This timely and powerful work crowns Women's History Month, City Center's 75th Anniversary Season, and the 20th anniversary of her own company Ballet Flamenco Sara Baras.

One of the greatest things about the Kennedy Center is its long history of exposing Washington, DC audiences to a healthy selection of international theatre, music, and dance artists. A major facet of this programming is an annual international arts festival, which, this year, is focused on the Iberian Peninsula and, by extension, other countries that have been heavily influenced by Spain and/or Portugal. Particularly exciting is the Washington, DC premiere of Ballet Flamenco Sara Baras' VOCES, SUITE FLAMENCA.

Prominent Cuban and Cuban-American dance artists will discuss how evolving relations between the United States and Cuba will affect the arts and cultural exchanges between the two countries in a free panel tonight, February 18 at 6:15 pm at New York City Center.

The acclaimed Cuban dance company Ballet Rakatan will make its U.S. debut at New York City Center, tonight, February 18 - 22, presenting Havana Rakatan, a dazzling mix of salsa, mambo, jazz, bolero, son, cha-cha-cha and rumba, accompanied by the eight-piece Cuban son band Turquino, which will perform live onstage.

New York City Center will present A Bailar: Dance at the Center, a three-week Latin dance festival featuring three acclaimed dance companies from Cuba, Argentina and Spain, running today, February 18 - March 7, 2015. The Festival kicks off with the U.S. debut of Havana Rakatan, a celebration of Cuban dance and music, and continues with Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui'sm¡longa, which captures the sultry world of Buenos Aires tango. Voces, Suite Flamenca, a new work from flamenco superstar Sara Baras, closes A Bailar. The Festival's many free pre-show events include dance lessons and discussion panels that will explore Latin culture through a variety of lenses.
